realtor: Day Trip Surprises - 08/10/10 08:05 AM
Bob in the Garden, Bob?  What happened to Paul? Do you even recognize Bob?  He's a little different from this 2010 incarnation - this Bob is dated 2000 and is a thinner version than what he is today (aren't we all).  This is how Bob came to live at our house. Last Saturday we decided to drive some back roads here in Kentucky. We were looking for a farmer's market in Danville, Kentucky but we stumbled upon the "World's Longest Yard Sale", held every year the first weekend of August.  It stretches 675 miles from Michigan to Alabama, along the highway … (0 comments)

realtor: A Time for Everything - 12/11/09 11:19 AM
Today was filled with serendipity.  My partner and I met an old acquaintance of  his that has been trying to sell her home.  She was an expired listing we visited.  She immediately invited us into her warm home and we had a great visit.  I went to lunch with a friend from my Wednesday morning small group at Tates Creek Pres.  Tom and I enjoyed a delicious lunch and were filled with the sweet taste of friendship as we left Sal's.  The service at Sal's on Tates Creek is so sincerely caring and the food never disappoints.  Eating good food with … (1 comments)

realtor: Whare are the really good restaurants with ambiance? - 11/05/09 11:04 AM
I just finished coming back from dinner with my wonderful wife Kathy.  Once again the restaurant food was good but not as delicious as my wife's cooking.  My grandson Sam said to me as we were eating lunch the other day, "Grammy is a good cooker isn't she grandpa Paul?"  Kathy has a knack for making everything she cooks taste so that the palette just wants to keep savoring the food.I often ask Kathy if she wants to go out to eat because I know the effort it takes to cook.  However, even she acknowledges her cooking is generally much better than … (1 comments)

realtor: Grean Beans, a Kentucky Treasure - 09/17/09 02:07 PM
Green Beans and Kentucky Wonders

I planted 10 feet of green bean seeds in late June.  When we lived in Seattle I would have planted the bean seeds in July, with the intentions of getting a crop during late August and early September before the shortening days and damp nights cause the beans to stop flowering.   I like to grow pole beans.  When we lived in Seattle my favorite bean varieties were Romano (a flat Italian bean) and Kentucky Wonder pole beans.  It surely is a wonder that after 35 years living in Seattle, we are in Kentucky … (6 comments)

realtor: Successful Home Buying Strategies - 07/13/09 01:47 PM
Buyers, There is More than One Way to Get a Good Price on Your Dream Home I often have buyers contacting me wanting to get a great deal.  Initially they are determined to buy a bank owned home or a short sale home.  The radio and TV ads advertise in such a way that the public think they can just steal a home.  Buyers be careful what you steal!I recently bid on a bank owned home and was lead to believe I had an agreement with the bank.  The next day the bank sent me an email stating. "Due to multiple … (0 comments)

realtor: Caring for the Soil - 06/27/09 02:35 PM
soil preparation Yesterday I wrote about planning your garden and specifically where to plant on your lot.  Today I am beginning to write about preparing the soil. The Humorist Dave Barry  once said,
"Your first job is to prepare the soil. The best tool for this is your neighbor's garden tiller. If your neighbor does not own a garden tiller, suggest that he buy one."
AVOID TILLING IF AT ALL POSSIBLE
The fact is if you can turn your soil without tilling you will have a much healthier garden. Borrow a good shovel or spading fork but DO NOT borrow a  tiller.

realtor: Making use of Your Land - 06/26/09 06:23 AM

Choosing a Place to Plant a Garden. When we moved into our home the previous owners had planted a few trees and three or four perennials.  I had cultivated about 3/4 of acre at our little "farm" in Woodinville, near Seattle.  The first step in planning a garden is deciding what you want to grow.  Near the house on the north or east side is a good place for plants like begonias and impatients.  They do best with lots of shade and will take a lot of watering if planted in the direct sun more than four hours a day. … (1 comments)

realtor: New Listings Worth Checking Out - 06/18/09 01:49 PM
Promising New Listings Here are two newer listings that I think may be worthy of further investigation.  Both are inside the circle.  The first is small but in a good location and the price is reasonable.  Certainly worth another look if you are looking at buying in the 100K range.  114 Venice Park
The second house is in Gardenside and is priced very well for the square footage.  Don Hudson the agent has lived in this area fro many years and is quite knowlegeable about what is a market price.  This property is likely to sell quickly.  1733 Gettysburg Rd, Lexington … (0 comments)

realtor: Marketing nuggets from a call for affirmation. - 11/08/08 07:34 AM
"Hi Dad,  just called to update you on my tire situation."  We talked just a few days ago and I gave Joanna, my youngest daughter advice on buying tires.
She checked in with me just a few moments ago.  As we were chatting it struck me that Joanna was calling for affirmation.   She is almost 27 but still needs affirmation from her father.
We all need affirmation and we all need to ask for affirmation.  It takes a certain amount of humility and transparency to invite people to approve of your actions.   When we do, we build trust and give a … (2 comments)

realtor: Beauty, Serenity and History - The Lexington Cemetery - 11/04/08 06:16 AM
I am taking a class this coming Monday to become a Certified Tourism Ambassador in Lexington.  Kathy and I have been trying to visit as many places as we can squeeze into our schedule.

Our son Andrew has expressed his admiration and wonder of the Lexington Cemetary.  Saturday was a stunningly beautiful day.  It was also All Saints Day.  Kathy and I drove into the cemetary at about 10:30.  We were stunned by the fall colors, the light shimmering through the leaves, the majestic oaks, ducks and geese floating calmly through the placid waters.

I was struck … (0 comments)
