fun for kids: Beaverton Oregon Parks (A place for kids and family) - 10/22/11 04:53 AM

Beaverton Oregon Parks are green, well taken care of and have something for just about everyone in the family to enjoy. Depending on the park you go to you can get the traditional swing all the way to Frisbee Golf. Below is a list of all the wonderful Beaverton Oregon Parks that I have done reviews on and this list will increase as I do more.
Hope you enjoy them as much as my family did when we went to them.

fun for kids: Tales from Scouter’s Mountain - 07/23/11 04:59 AM
Ok, I made it back from Scouter’s Mountain this year with only tales and no injuries. To me that makes this year a success! If you remember, last year I came back bleeding because I was stupid enough to accept a challenge from the boys to take on the obstacle course. (I won, but it cost me)
This year it was fun, not to hot about 66 degrees all day and just a bunch of hiking from station to station, something I could handle. We did the rocket build, Frisbee golf, archery (I got a bull’s-eye) and last but not least, … (8 comments)

fun for kids: Today I get to be a Cub Scout again - 07/20/11 03:48 AM
Every year I volunteer to go to camp with my son at least one of the days of the week and it is always so much fun. Well, today is that day and I hope to bring back some great pictures with me. Looks like the sun is out, which is good because so far this week it has been raining a lot.
So, have a wonderful day in the rain without me today, because despite me wearing my Activerain “Let It Rain” shirt to camp, I really don’t want it to. But, I do love the conversations that are started … (13 comments)

fun for kids: The making of a friend and a smile! - 06/03/11 07:00 PM
The making of a friend and a smile is actually something that is very easy and it could be done for a cost of about $20. Build-A-Bear where a child get to pick their friend, fill them with love by adding stuffing a heart and then gets to bath them, cloth them and in less than 20 minutes that bear then can create a smile on a young child’s face. If you have never taken a child or a grandchild, then I suggest you do, they will love you for it, promise!

fun for kids: Beaverton Oregon Parks: Eichler Park - 10/24/10 02:34 PM

This is a nice park, but I do have to say I have mixed feelings about it. Not because of what they have, but mainly its location and the people who are always at the park. Normally when you think of a Beaverton, Oregon Park you think of a great place for young kids. But, this park seems to have more teenagers than young kids.

You see when you are a parent of a small child, you tend to want to stay away from parks with a large number of teenagers, not because they are bad, but … (6 comments)

fun for kids: Lincoln City Geocache Day: Not only was it fun, but educational as well - 10/17/10 12:09 AM

How do you as smaller city in Oregon get some 250 people visitors to your city and teach them about the history at the same time? You set up a Geocache mystery adventure and people from all around come, that’s how!

The kids finding the first cache of the mystery

Well, The Lincoln City Parks and Recreation department did that and they apparently do it twice a year and since we are fairly new to Geocaching, we got involved in this one, met some great people from all walks of life and even got to watch what … (15 comments)

fun for kids: Portland Parks – Mt. Scott Park - 10/13/10 04:54 PM

OK, I thought this park was pretty cool, was a little disappointed that they had dismantled the merry-go-round, but still rather large and lots to do. Even have an indoor pool with a waterslide, couldn’t get a picture of that really. But, they have bathrooms tennis courts, lots of picnic tables to eat at and plenty of bench seating for parents to watch their kids play.

Now, something I didn’t see, but did read about online via foursquare was that there was a roller rink somewhere in the park. I’m not sure about that as I didn’t see … (10 comments)

fun for kids: Clackamas County Parks: Rivervilla Park - 08/29/10 04:58 PM

Normally we don’t venture out ofWashington County forparks, but it was over 90 degrees this day and we wereover at my brother’shouse for the car ride. Afterwards were looking for a way to cool down.As youcan tell by the name of the park, it is located on the river.
We were hoping that it actuallyhad river access forswimmers and not just boaters. We were in luck on thisone! It actually didn’thave boat access and just people access. Boy did the kids enjoy gettingin fora swim as a way to cool off.

There wasn’t much else in thispark, no playground equipmentor anything, but it … (8 comments)

fun for kids: Out of this World Pizza: The pizza and the rest of the place actually is out of this world - 06/13/10 06:36 PM
As the end of baseball season ends, my youngest had her end of the year party first. They decided to have it Out of this World Pizza and I have to admit I had never heard of the place before then. To be honest when I got the invitation I thought they had made a mistake. It was on the outskirts of Hillsboro, OR and in the middle of a heavy industrial area. (Not the place you would expect to find a huge pizza place)
So, we went not knowing what to expect at all. Well I do have to say I was … (18 comments)

fun for kids: Vacation time is fast approaching, do you plan on driving? Have something for the kids to do or it will feel like an even longer trip than it really is! - 10/28/09 05:11 PM

I love going on long drives with my family. We try to do it as often as possible, so we can discover new places. Lucky for me, my family all lives within 20 miles of my home, but if you need to drive this holiday season, let me share some of our longer trip games and thing to do to occupy our kids.
Many new cars come with DVD players and much as I love them, I don't like to create zombies out of my kids. But, if we are driving for more than 25 hours, then a DVD is almost a must, so … (12 comments)

fun for kids: Family Fun Night: The Kids Finally Got To See Why It Is Called “The Greatest Show on Earth” – A Night at the Circus (Part 1) - 10/01/09 07:29 AM

A couple weeks ago we decided to surprise the kids. They had no idea what we going to be doing that night, they just knew that it was going to be fun! We let them guess all day long and told them if they could guess it, we would tell them they were correct. But, even up to the point where we were getting out of the car, they had no idea what they were in for.

fun for kids: I got tired of being beat on the Wii bowling, so I decided to show my kids that I can still take them at the bowling alley. - 09/29/09 06:03 AM

Virtual bowling is nothing like real bowling! A two ounce controller will never feel or turn thes ame as a sixteen pound bowling ball. Now, I have to say, my kids have gotten pretty good at the Wii bowling and I don’t like losing, so it was time to show them that daddy had some mad skill on the real hardwood lanes!

We took everyone to Sunset lanes, mainly because I knew they had mechanical bumpers to make sure the kids didn’t end up with a gutter ball. (They drop down when a certain persons name appears on the score board.)

Well, I … (16 comments)

fun for kids: Hope you had a hoppy birthday! - 09/26/09 10:24 AM

Well, my oldest daughter just turned eleven and I hope she had a hoppy birthday. I know for me it sure seemed to be, and heck, it was a lot of fun as well! What made it so hoppy? Unlike most little girls her age, instead of wanting to go see Hanna Montana she wanted to go to a park and look for snakes and frogs. (And boy did we find them!)
We went to Camille Park in Beaverton, a park that we had never been to, but we knew it had a creek going through it. When we got there, she played … (12 comments)

fun for kids: Beaverton Oregon Parks: Buckskin Park (In the Greenway Neighborhood) - 04/19/09 07:09 PM
I would say spring has officially arrived today in the Beaverton, Oregon, Parks. Today my family and I spent some time at Buckskin Park inthe Greenway Neighborhood of Beaverton, Oregon.
Now, this park was funfor the kids and I have to say they didn’t actually want to leave. It had a picnic table where we could have lunch and leave our water bottles. We didn’t see any other families while we were there and the kids didn’t get to hot because the trees kept the park pretty shaded. (Even my wife who burns easily didn’t burn as we hit an early 78 … (6 comments)

fun for kids: Beaverton Oregon Parks: Wildhorse Park in the Greenway Neighborhood - 04/08/09 07:18 AM
Wildhorse Park is what the City of Beaverton calls a mini park. A mini park is a park that is nothing more than a small greenspace where they have put park benches, play ground equipment,or something to improve the community.
Wildhorse Park is located off Davies Road in the Greenway neighborhood of Beaverton. Even though it’s a mini park, the playground equipment is big enoughthat afamily can spend 30 – 45 minutes playing without getting board.
The only drawback that my family found with this park is that there are no trees to shade you from the sun, so if it is a hot day, you … (8 comments)

fun for kids: The Oregon Zoo is offering an a special home school day - 03/09/09 07:49 AM
Tomorrow March 10, 2009 is a big day at the Oregon Zoo, they are offering a special program called “Animals in Motion” exclusively to home school kids. As usual, the public places such as the Oregon Zoo and O.S.M.I. have recognized the power of home schooling and have reached out to the home schooling community by offering days like this.
I got the announcement this morning. The program is from 10am-2pm and is limited to the first 200 people, so you need to act fast and order your tickets immediately. My family and I are members of the Zoo, so we do have free admission, … (7 comments)

fun for kids: Tualatin Hills Nature Park & Interpretive Center (Another reason to relocate to Beaverton, Oregon) - 11/07/07 01:50 AM
Tualatin Hills Nature Park and Interpretive Center is a 220 acre wildlife preserve in Beaverton, Oregon and one of the only drawbacks to this park is that you can't bring dogs. Kids even love it despite it not having any playground equipment.
This park has so much to see and touch that boredom just never hits. This park had trail after trail and is such a large park it really does require a map if you ever want to get back to your car.

The park is always having classes at the interpretive center, like … (3 comments)

fun for kids: Why I love Halloween – Sorry Kids! - 10/29/07 06:44 AM
I love Halloween and not just because I have to test candy to make sure it isn't dangerous. As all parents now the most dangerous candies are Butter Fingers, Chocolate Malt balls and Kit Kats.
But you also get the chance to have fun with the kids, even if they don't always like you taken pictures that you can use against them later. This is why I'm posting these pictures, so I can get them out there for the world to see before they can delete them from our hard drive.

I will update this blog after Halloween, but here are some great … (20 comments)
