being grateful for what is before you: Nerdin Gardens: Haughty Hyacinth - 03/30/21 10:02 AM
Nerdin Gardens: Haughty Hyacinth

Born into the close-knit Hyacinth flora clan, Haughty quite often dreamt of setting off into the next township to make a name for herself. She resentfully remained in place.

The family lived in close proximity, looked alike, behaved similarly. She became angry to be associated with such a cluster, frequently jeering, pointing her leaves and making fun.

One day, a Hollyhock stalk was within easy reach. This became her opportunity to become an independent, singular being! Haughty grabbed ahold and began pulling, so hard in fact, that her stem snapped in half! Quickly, she began to diminish.

All dreams were dashed when … (24 comments)

being grateful for what is before you: Looking ahead. - 04/18/20 09:26 AM
Looking ahead.

Uncontrollable life situations can often leave us in a vulnerable state. Moving forward, despite setbacks is expected. How we handle adversity plays a key role in dealing with overwhelming problems that come along.

Figure out what you can do for self-help. Here are several examples:

Maintain your positivity, talk to your inner self and say it's going to be OK. Keep your sense of humor, laugh often, especially when you feel like crying! Avoid the 'head in the sand' scenario while thinking everything will go away. Go on a brisk walk through a favorite local park, taking in the beauty of the area. Call a good friend … (0 comments)

being grateful for what is before you: Wanda's 10 Ways of Gratitude: Day 4 - 12/19/18 04:01 PM
Wanda's 10 Ways of Gratitude: Day 4

In an effort to show gratitude to those around me, for 10 days, I will be handing out a specially-made Thank You card, along with a token of appreciation to someone.

Sending out almost 100 individual packages that had to be postmarked one by one can get tedious at best. Montana and Marisol, two young women who work at Hurst General Store in St. George, Utah took on the challenge with a smile and happy attitude.

The line continued to get longer, they pushed on to get my job completed, despite a little push back from impatient customers. The machine kept malfunctioning and they … (12 comments)

being grateful for what is before you: Speak it - Show it - Shout it Out! - 11/06/18 07:28 AM
Speak it - Show it - Shout it Out!

People need to feel valued. Being grateful is usually a verbal response to an action. Showing gratitude is an action to a response. A hearty Thank you is nice but a Thank You-with a Hug can mean more to the receiver.  Right? When showing gratitude, you can also add a little something like: A gift certificate Tickets to a play Personal greeting card An invite to share a meal together Express appreciation with a phone call
With past and present clients, I send out a quarterly mailing with a small gift inside. Just the other day, a home seller said how much he enjoys … (12 comments)

being grateful for what is before you: The Hungry Fisherman & the Little Fish - 04/28/18 08:39 AM
The Hungry Fisherman & the Little Fish
A hungry Fisherman, who lived on the fish he caught, had bad luck one day and netted nothing but a very small fry. He was about to put it in his basket when the little Fish said:

"Please spare me, Mr. Fisherman! I am so small it is not worth while to carry me home. When I am bigger, I shall make you a much better meal."

But the Fisherman quickly put the fish into his basket.

"How foolish I should be," he said, "to throw you back. However small you may be, you are better than nothing at all."

A small … (18 comments)

being grateful for what is before you: Two green pieces of yarn. - 01/26/13 03:18 AM
Two green pieces of yarn.

Has someone made a lasting impact early in life that you still cherish and remain grateful for the experience?

A 2nd grade teacher comes to mind every time. She noticed that my hair was ratty, needing attention, then held me back one day before leaving school. She carefully brushed out the tangles, putting my hair into two ponytails with green yarn, saying that if I brought back the two strings and made an effort to be early, she'd fix my hair every morning.

Each night, after that, before going to bed, I'd carefully put the two pieces of yarn in the seam of my studies book and take them back the following day … (51 comments)
