Venturing out to the gardens in search of Praying Mantis hatchlings can become an adventure. Extremely elusive at a glance, knowing where to look, with an experienced eye, helps.
They are diligent, self-motivated hunters, often traveling to great lengths to forage. Well-honed instincts guide them to food sources, their stealthiness provides cover against predators.
After looking for quite some time under/over leaves and high atop stately Hollyhock towers, I spied with my side eye...a tiny mantis stretching itself an effort to satisfy his appetite.
Remaining alive depends on consistent methods implemented every day. I was so excited, took (17 comments)
Just think of the life of a Praying Mantis and how many missed opportunities if only a ground floor forager. The clear edge for these creatures is to be high up on foliage of varying heights for a better eye vantage point.
The Praying Mantis prepares and plans every single day to be successful without fail. Survival depends on unexpected, stealthy tactics while also avoiding becoming a food source for other aggressive garden inhabitants.
Though small in stature, these hunters must be purely self-motivated to be successful, (16 comments)
Though a huge bumbler sits just above, atop a leaf, this little preyer remains perfectly still in a prone position. Proving that nature can work side-by-side independently without ulterior motives.
While thwarting the wind, the bee was resting before, once again, shooting to the cores of multi-colored Hollyhocks, the tiny Preying Mantis simply observed everything and all from its hidden perch.
Out to the garden we go. Happy Sunday all! (8 comments)
There is much participation as a member of a gardening group on Facebook. People post their prized produce and flower photos. Questions are asked and seasoned dirt lubbers are more than happy to answer, based on their experiences.
A woman found a Praying Mantis pod on a tree she pulled inside for the winter and set outside again. She was curious, asking members what in the world it could be. Should she take it off...could the mother still be in the basement...would the pod damage the tree? Soon she had more answers than she could handle, adding to her gardening knowledge base and was (16 comments)
The Praying Mantis will emerge from their cocoon as soon as other insects they consider food, show themselves. Yesterday was the day as 100's of little ones made their way into the flower garden among the many varieties of pink, yellow, red, lavender Roses, Snapdragons, Daisies, pink and purple Clematis, Hollyhocks and more.
These tiny creatures, if they survive in the great outdoors, will grow to be several inches long and become stealthy hunters, often camouflaging themselves to be unseen by the naked eye. Masters of remaining motionless for long periods of time, a 180 degree (11 comments)
Successful prospecting takes a willingness to think outside the box and take advantage of traffic moving in your direction. To be effective you must: Know your target.Convert customers.Remain patient to gain. Anything less and you just may be expending valuable resources but for the Praying Mantis it is not an option. It doesn't take much to grab the attention of flies as they are often attracted to waste.
She knew that hanging upside down on the lip of the dumpster would yield desired results. Now is the time to make necessary adjustments to your business in order to be more effective in the (7 comments)
Praying Mantis' are not only stealthy hunters who remain motionless for extended periods of time but they are also skilled acrobats! They hang precariously from the back legs, effortlessly walk the underside of stems, swing and sway in time with the wind, becoming one with the plant.
Whether at rest or while preying, they exude restrained patience and stillness, confidently knowing when to exact the next move, while upside down, right side up or turned around. Timing plus opportunity equals success and is good for business sake too. Happy Saturday all! (11 comments)
Praying mantis' depend on the ability to camouflage themselves from both predators and prey as a stealthy means of survival.
Add to that: 180 degree head rotation the ability to snatch food right out of the air remains motionless for extended periods of time After walking past this little guy the first time, he most definitely spotted me much sooner by hiding in plain sight. Happy Sunday all!
