sunny st george: Wordless Wednesday (almost!): Be careful what your children wish for! - 12/01/10 12:50 AM
Wordless Wednesday (almost!): Be careful what your children wish for!

It may just happen...and IT DID!
Our two boys are always wishing for snow this time of year so they can get out in it and play! The last time we had snow like this, they were able to get the snowmobiles out and ride them in the yard and down the road. What a great day it was, the memories are still fresh in my mind.
I told my husband that perhaps we should move further south to avoid cold, snowy conditions. He agreed and said we should move to St. … (23 comments)

Phase II Millcreek Generation Facility Ribbon Cutting October 14th, 2010 ~ 4:00 p.m. in St. George, Utah / Dixie Sunshiners
In order to meet the needs of the St. George area's energy demands, Phase II of the Millcreek Generation Facility was constructed, doubling the capacity from 40 megawatts to 80 megawatts. The first phase cost approximately 18.5 million dollars, the second phase about 48 million dollars. Phase II, a gas-fired generation facility, reduces the amount of greenhouse gases introduced to the atmosphere therefore costing more for additional equipment required.
As the St. George area continues to grow and with the additional need … (1 comments)

St. George, Utah named in Top 100 Places to Live in the United States! Thank you Relocate America!
Climate and clean air play a large part in why southern Utah has become a premiere destination instead of just a stop to gas up or stay a night in between travel goals. St. George, Utah is also centrally located between Salt Lake City, which is 3 hours away and Las Vegas, a mere 2 hours drive and Lake Powell just 150 miles away. People take advantage of outdoor activities throughout the year such as: Golfing, running, hiking, biking, swimming, camping, fishing, world-class entertainment at Tuacahn Ampitheatre and … (16 comments)

sunny st george: Thankful Thursdays: The power of music can mooove you! - 06/03/10 03:41 AM
Thankful Thursdays: The power of music can mooove you!

While out taking pictures of Ironwood Community in St. George, Utah, I heard music while walking down the sidewalk to the community pool. Crossing the street, I noticed a car, realizing that was the source of the music.

But I wasn't the only one that was enjoying the sounds!

This calf began to slowly walk toward the woman in the car, obviously drawn to the melodies coming from the stereo. He just stood there enjoying the beat of the music...obviously moooved by it too!

sunny st george: The Power of Flowers: One day only event! Come one, come all to see this spectacular sight! - 05/08/10 06:00 AM

Late in the afternoon Thursday, my husband called to tell me the pink cacti had bloomed out. This cactus is also nicknamed cob cactus, due to it's cylindrical shape. Of course, unlike corn on the cob, you don't want your lips anywhere near this plant!
This cactus blooms twice a year and the flowers last only a day or so. The colors of the blooms come in pink, orange, white and yellow and as you can see, they are very vibrant! My husband was kind enough to get the shot of this one to share with all of you. They're … (27 comments)

sunny st george: It's a Echin...Echinop...Echinops...It's a Blooming Cactus! - 04/28/10 01:36 AM

Does anyone have a simpler name for this variety of cacti?
This cactus blooms twice a year and the flowers last only a day or so. The only name I found was Echinopsis Cactus, does anyone know of a simpler name for this variety?
The colors of the blooms come in pink, orange, white and yellow and as you can see, they are very vibrant! I took some amazing shots of the white ones and am going back today to see if I can capture more of their blooming beauty before the flowers close up! They're everywhere here in southern Utah!

The smaller tulip appears to be looking up at the bigger one and saying, "I'm going to be just like you when I grow up!" I am so lucky to see the beauty that St. George and the southern Utah area offers every season, every day and as often as I can, I take pictures in order to share it with all of you.

sunny st george: Friday Funnies: UP CLOSE and PERSONAL! - 04/02/10 03:48 AM

Our family volunteers many hours each year for southern Utah events or just to brighten someone's day. We spend time stuffing plastic eggs with a variety of candies to hand out to people we meet along the way. We came across this little guy and he was estatic to see the Easter Bunny from a distance away, saying "Hi Easter Bunny!" and waving to him but...when it came down to it, he didn't like being
...UP CLOSE and PERSONAL!
The photo says it all! Happy Friday to you all!

sunny st george: I'm #2! I'm #2 I'm #2 in the state of Utah! It's TRUE! - 03/27/10 04:12 PM
I have just taken 2nd place in the state on Activerain and I am 9 points - YES, 9 points - ahead of the former 2nd place position holder in the entire state of Utah!
This is SO THRILLING!
The number 3 has always been my favorite and lucky number but #2 feels really GOOD right now!

#2 LOOKS really GOOD too, don't you think?! (I love these pics!)

I just had to share it with all of you because you are part of the reason I have been successful here on Activerain!
I have laughed, cried, asked for advice and spread … (40 comments)

sunny st george: Wordless Wednesday (almost!): Let the Sunshine In! - 03/03/10 12:27 AM

Just like every cloud has a silver lining, every storm has its calm. This storm was rolling in fast, the cloud cover coming in so quick, it seemed to go eerily quiet and dark at the same time. And then just as I thought the rain was going to come pouring down, the sun broke through!
I wonder what clouds sound like when they bump each other?

sunny st george: New to the area or just want to make friends? - 02/27/10 08:35 AM

Do you know someone who is moving into your area? Or have you sold a home to people who are new to the area?
There is a no-profit organization that promotes friendship among members while creating a feeling of belonging in the community.
Refer them to your local Newcomers Club! This is the international website: http://www.newcomersclub.com
The club was established in April, 1995. There are quite a few interest groups with more added each year: bowling, breakfast buddies, bridge, bunch-a-lunch, bunco, cooking, crafts, dining out, gardening, ladies & men's golf, Mesquite trips, shopping trips, quilting, reading, singles, sketch pads, skiing, … (14 comments)
