This simple quote has resonated with me for most of my life. Adults have the best intentions when they say, "You can't do that!" in an effort to keep children safe from harm but the word 'can't' is self-defeating.
One thing not allowed in our home was the phrase, "I can't" because even voicing it/repeating it meant a mediocre effort toward anything attempted. Facing fears and preparation helps success.
"Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right." became the sage advice given to our children when challenges arose and also mine when changing careers at 45 years of age.
I do, every day. It's that inside voice repeating that I can accomplish anything I desire, whether it's a competitive listing appointment or finding that perfect house for a particular buyer.
It also reminds me that great things can happen when: I get up dress up and show up I may just make a difference in someone's life.
Much more than that though, it's the inner cheerleader who claps virtual hands in honor of every successful transaction and air pats me on the back for accomplishments no matter how small or great.

The day before Christmas 2014, my little sister Theresa was diagnosed with small cell carcinoma, it was in her liver, lungs and blood. The news was devastating, filling me with dread and painfully brought to the forefront, our mother's passing. Hoping for the best but knowing a fast-growing cancer that has gone undetected for a period of time, can be very bad news.
I phoned my little sis, trying to keep the tears and worry from my voice and remain strong. She surprised me and said she is going to beat this disease and has way too much (13 comments)
On the other end was Robert Hammerstein himself from Hillsdale, New Jersey! We spoke for a few minutes discussing business, referrals in the Rain, social media preferences and the Radar Rangers. He is an established musician who is part of a group that includes his wife Lisa. They play and sing songs for challenged children. I love that!
Are you in line this 3rd quarter with projected goals for the year? As we head into mid August, it is time to reflect back and look forward to strong finishes for 2014. Before you know it, Christmas will be here and gone with the New Year making an appearance. Keep the momentum by: Maintaining positivity Keeping a sense of humor Handling problems as they arise Of course, continue to follow up and follow through, make yourself available and contact past clients to remind them why they chose you as their agent. And remember, there are only 20 Fridays left to accomplish (29 comments)
I know what you're thinking...Your answer most likely was Tuesday and Thursday but it is actually Today and Tomorrow! While Today has already started, we have the opportunity to make it one of the best ever and if lucky enough, possess the power to make Tomorrow even better and brighter for ourselves and for others!
It is a matter of choice, of course. One Today or Tomorrow at a time. (12 comments)
"When you know better, you do better." ~ Maya Angelou The many lessons she taught freely, with no hidden agendas or ulterior motives. This revered and insprirational woman has made an impact that will live forever in the hearts of the very people she touched! Mine included. Rest in Peace dear Maya Angelou, for you have made this world a better place with your positive presence and will be greatly missed. (6 comments)
the power of the positive: Focus on what is right but you can't if you won't!

Focus on what is right but you can't if you won't! You can be guaranteed that things will go wrong and there will be: Failed transactions Cancelled listings Unavoidable disappointments Despite the setbacks, get up and go! Meet the day. Look forward to the many things that are right in your business, like: Creating lasting relationships with clients Closing transactions, meeting the goals set forth Getting accepted offers or approvals on short sales Focus on what is right and believe that you do make a positive difference. But you can't if you won't! It is up to you. (10 comments)
Whether it comes from: peers co-agents or very satisfied clients Sharing positive experiences does help propel business forward.
it is perfectly okay to ask for a written appraisal from satisfied clients once a transaction has recorded. Of course, one sent without request is most appreciated! So thankful for the opportunity to do business!

the power of the positive: Motivational Monday: 'Adapt and Adjust' is this Realtor's motto.

Motivational Monday: 'Adapt and Adjust' is this Realtor's motto. Proper planning and preparation creates less chance for chaos but does not always guarantee a smooth transaction. As a real estate agent, I can attest to this thought process. There are so many adverse situations that present themselves at any time, anywhere and you must own the ability to adjust and adapt in order to move forward. ............................................................................................................................ I had an amazing 4-color presentation ready that included stats and comps in the neighborhood, wore a suit and then...

the power of the positive: Meet Larry, Moe and CURLY!

Meet Larry, Moe and CURLY! Mother Nature must have a sense of humor as you can see here! There's Larry...there's Moe...and then there's CURLY! We are still pulling vegetables from the garden daily and when I saw this one I just had to marvel at how plants adjust to their surroundings in order to survive. This cucumber (on the right) not only maintained its growth but was thriving on the vine!
Woop! Woop! Woop! Woop! Having FUN yet? I am! Ha-ha! (20 comments)
Motivational Monday: Hit a Home Run despite inaccurate information on the web!
I received a phone call regarding a listing that I had and the interested party wanted to know if they could view the home. I told him that home SOLD more than 3 months ago!
Strike one! BUT...He then asked about another property and that one was showing Pending on the MLS but not on the website he was searching.
O.K. Two Strikes! Despite the irregularity of up-to-the-minute real estate information floating out there on who-knows-how-many-sites, I continued to engage him in conversation rather than saying no and hanging up.
