If you've never seen an early Autumn sunset in Beaufort, SC, well, that's reason enough to pack up your things and head to the Lowcountry this weekend.
Throw in the 16th Annual Beaufort Shrimp Festival, and the decision becomes a slam dunk. Add a free concert compliments of Forrest Gump's Lt. Dan, and it's a total no-brainer.
Years ago, before the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park was constructed along the Beaufort River, docks dominated the landscape behind the shops and restaurants of Bay Street.

Beaufort, SC is an ecletic town, no doubt. We are an arts-rich town, with our own film festival. Although located in hyper-conservative South Carolina, Beaufort has a real liberal streak running through it. Riann Mihylov is a talented photographer based here in Beaufort, SC. She is also ecletic, as evidenced by her photo of a Christmas tree in the surf at Hunting Island State Park, South Carolina's most popular state park. She is a product of the Beaufort County school district, but she managed to turn out okay.

It really is just common courtesy. When we make an appointment to show a house, we need to treat it like an appointment. Members of the Beaufort MLS received a notice this week about growing complaints of buyer's agents and their clients not keeping showing appointments.
These are stressful, challenging times for sellers. Because of the difficult market, sellers are pulling out all the stops in getting their homes ready to show. They are thinning out furniture. Back in the day, the waterways around Dataw Island were hotbeds of marijuana smuggling. The marijuana would come out of the Atlantic darkness on shrimp boats, which would snake their way up the backwaters of the Lowcountry to meeting spots not too far from what has since become one of the Southeast's premier golf communities. Few movies are as closely associated with Beaufort, SC, as "Forrest Gump." Although the story is set against the backdrop of the fictional town of Greenbow, Alabama, Gump was filmed mostly in and around Beaufort, SC.
When Gump was being mobbed by reporters during his "cross country" run midway through the movie, he was really on the Woods Memorial Bridge in downtown Beaufort. What else is there left to say about Beaufort, SC? In recent years, we have been named as a top arts community and fishing destination. The Wall Street Journal pegged Beaufort as a "Movie Mecca", while National Geogrophic featured our little town in its "Traveler" journal. Garden & Gun have all featured Beaufort in recent months.
We can chalk up a couple of more encomiums for Beaufort. Money.cnn.com says Beaufort is one of the Top 25 places to retire, while the Miami Herald threw a kayak in the water and wrote a terrific piece about the Beaufort River.

It's the latest craze among clothing retailers -- Vanity Sizing.
Inflate the size of your garments so they appear smaller than they are. The logic is to make your oversized customers feel better about their backsides by making them believe they are squeezing into a smaller pair of jeans (or whatever the garment may be). When they feel better about wearing that pair of jeans, they are more likely to purchase said pair of jeans. Make sense?

Never underestimate the value of an extra set of eyes. If you can get an extra dozen or so eyes, that's even better. The more eyes, the better you see.

Seems like the older I get, the more nostalgic I become. In bygone years, the advent of Autumn was a time to celebrate. Football was back. Cooler weather was on the horizon. Thanksgiving and Christmas were just around the corner.
All of this, of course, still applies. Football, chilly weather, and the holidays haven't gone anywhere. What has happened is my kids are getting older, and there has been a change in my family dynamics, which I won't get into.

Purchasing property in a country club community can be daunting, and exasperating, experience, especially if there is an equity membership involved. There are fees that are paid at closing, and fees that are paid after closing.
There are golf membership options, and there are social membership options. There are dues which apply to improved property (aka, with a home on it), and dues which apply to unimproved property. There are trail fees and green fees and annual fees. Sometimes, there is a temporary assessment in place.
