travis parker: Work Day at the VFW in Enterprise, AL - 04/12/14 01:18 PM

Another Work Day at the John Wiley Brock Post V.F.W. (Veterans of the Foreign Wars) in Enterprise, Alabama.
The "younger" gentlemen doing most of the actual work are some NCO's from Ft. Rucker (next door to Enterprise). They cut the grass, put on roofing waterproofing, filled in holes on the grounds, and dozens of miscellaneous upkeep items.
The guy in the striped shirt with his wife is our State Representative, Barry Moore and his wife, Heather. He's been a regular at our functions and huge supporter, especially since he is a Veteran himself. Bob Cooper is our esteemed Post Commander … (0 comments)

Enterprise, Alabama has it's Annual "World's Smallest St. Patrick's Day Parade"
I used to have a couple of Retail businesses on one of the corners where this goes between (the "route" is only one block long). So, I've seen it ever since it started. Missed it this year due to my wife's Chemo and this being her quarantine week, but here is some info from the local newspapers.
The Grand Marshall, and ONLY participant - hence "World's Smallest" moniker - this year is Mark Doyle. Mark's great-grandparents were of Irish descent and the family name WAS "O'Doyle". He teaches at … (5 comments)

Alabama New Home Yr-End Report: Well, after a rough start in 2014 due to the crazy weather, here is how 2013 ended up.
December home sales slipped 1.8 percent from the same period a year earlier, but for the second consecutive year, Alabama new home sales have experienced growth from the prior year. In 2013, sales were up 5.8 percent. In 2012, sales were up 7.2 percent, which is much better than declines of 13.0 percent in both 2010 and 2011. Alabama new home sales slipped 2% from December 2012 with the new home inventory up 10% from that same month.

travis parker: Life Hacks - 11/13/13 06:15 AM
"Life Hacks", or "Life Hacking" is a cool sorta new (to me anyway) term for the short-cuts/tips we've all been doing for years. According to Wikipedia, it started in this form in the 1980's with Computer geeks doing shortcuts in their work. This spread to everyday life and in 2004 first used the term and it's spread.
As you go thru them, you'll see many that you've already done, but a buncha "duhhhh, that's TOO simple and I shoulda thought of it!!" items. I'm sure many have been in the long running "Heloise Hints" column in your newspaper.
Here are two … (34 comments)
