Alert OC in Brea, CA ~

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Preferred Home Brokers 00402040

Alert OC ~ Alert Orange County  has been rolled out to a wide range of cities in the County of Orange and Brea is one Alert OC in Brea, CA 92821of them. The first test of the REVERSE 911 system takes place in the City of Brea on May 13!

The notification system is will alert OC residents in the event of an emergency or local concerns. It's FREE and can be activated on a city-wide regional basis or targeted for specific locations.

It's important to note that according to city representatives available "land-line"  phone numbers have been automatically pre-loaded into the system. Yet how many of us now use our cell phones more often than a home number? I'm one of many that does just that. Therefore it's important to know multiple contact points are available

  • You can edit your own info to add your cell number and or your business/work number into the system.

Most of us can remember it wasn't all that long ago that friends and neighbors were evacuated as a result of the local fires. This photo was taken in the front yard of my Brea home. So be ready, be prepared and do your part to participate, check out your listing at by checking out this link to the city.

Live outside of the city? Visit here to see if your city is participating. To learn more about the system check out the overview and share this link with others!

Hi Lynda, Doesn't it seem odd that this state has been so consumed with fires for the last number of years. With state finances in the tank and these horrific fires all over the place, it seems there is no place safe. The 911 system will be very helpful to saves lives. I wonder if exterior sprinkler systems would help but the fires looks so monstrous.

Our little city did that kind of reverse test calling the land line phones. It helps with our storms around here. Very cool technology. A broadcast message to phones.

Lynda - such a great idea and one that should be implemented in every community. I think it worked well back in 2007 with all the fires here and notification to folks about mandatory or voluntary evacuations.

This is important news for people in your area. They need to know that they'll need to manually enter their cell phone numbers into the system. Many people don't even have a land line anymore. I have one, but it's a dedicated fax line, and it's an all-one fax with no handset on it =/  My husband recently connected a handset in the other roo, just for emergencies, but I doubt anyone would hear it ring.

Hi William ~ You're right, we've had more fires the past few years than anytime I can remember in SoCal. We've got so many folks here now, things are different that growing up here.

Gary ~ One important aspect is that anyone can also load their cell and or work numbers too if they like.

Jeff ~ It's good to know it works so well. My church also used this type of system the day of 911.

Lynda, I'm glad they took the cell phone issue into consideration.  Many young people do not have landlines at all.

Hi Lynda,
The age of technology, it certainly can be used in many helpful ways.  Like all good things, there is the down side too.

Lynda - This is valuable information.  I just checked, and Lake Forest has it too.  I'm going to get all my numbers put in the system.

Lynda - This seems very useful.  I just wonder ... after hearing the news about the employee layoffs that CA just announced, and in view of everything els that is happening economically, if this is the right thing at the right time?

I can't believe you're just now getting the Reverse 911 system. We've had ours here since Summer 2004 (after the October 2003 fires), and the system worked great for the October 2007 fires.

Regina  &  Jennifer ~ You're right about adding cell phones, business/work numbers can also be included.

Hi Cynthia ~ Down side?  I can't think of one on this.

Vicki ~ Hi neighbor, pretty much county wide.

Hey Jack ~ Let's hope it comes to your area.

Hi Lisa ~ I think it is, ultimately it could save lives and money. It's also been i the works for a while now.

Hi Karen ~ I agree.

Jim ~ We've had it for a while, yet I don't think it was county-wide. The fact that we can also end add multiple numbers is a big help. Glad to hear it worked so well in your area.

Russel ~ Great.

Gregg ~ You're a man of many words!
