Makakilo, Hawaii-A Mountain Community

By
Real Estate Agent with Liberty Homes RS-#62825

Makakilo was on my agenda for  today because I did an Open House to help out a fellow agent who is in Japan. So, I took advantage of the scenery to take pictures as well as bring you some information about the Community of Makakilo. (the picture to the right is a beautiful blooming Plumeria Tree in the front yard of the home)

Makakilo is located on the southern end of the slopes of the Waiʻanae mountain above the city of Kapolei. The freeway divides the newer developed Kapolei (ocean side) from Makakilo.

Some history indicates that Pu'u (hill or mountain) Makakilo ("Maka" means eyes; "kilo" means observer) is one of the post erosion series of volcanoes of the Waianae Mountains. It lies just above the community of Makakilo; the rounded bump south slope of the Waianae. The local people call it "Bolo Head" (bald head) Mountain.

Makakilo was used as a point for observation. But.....the questions remain; was it a look out for invading armies or was it an astronomical observatory?

While writing Localism Client! Rewards of Posting Good Content! I inserted this picture from a view in Mililani (left)  The picture to the right is the same mountain range but many miles south and to the left in the picture before Pu'u Makakilo.

When I arrived at the home I took some beautiful shots of the view from the upstairs bedroom. Can you imagine sitting on your bed and looking down the mountain to the ocean?  Well, here it is to the left....The picture to the right is a close up from that window!

Makakilo is also known for it's stone quarry owned by Grace Pacific Corporation.

The Open House was kind of slow...but Wow....what a beautiful day!

Sally--If all opens were that beautiful, there would be many more agents hosting willingly! I like opens but would love doing them at such a wonderful home.

Sally- I agree with Suzanne!  I don't know if I've ever seen a real picture of one, but I always buy that at Bath & Body Works... lol what a sheltered, Northern life I lead here in Central New York.

Sally, I was going to say the same thing.  If I could see that, I would do more open houses.  I'm so jealous.  :)

Suzanne: That's funny. They sell little bottles of plumeria and white ginger perfumes in the Hawaiian section at Walmart here. haha

Christina: I thought I was the sheltered one! I'm sure there are things that I have no clue about over there!

Steph: Well, come on down! The views are spectacular all over the place.

janeAnne: Why of course!  When I got home and saw the pictures I'd taken I was pleased. Especially the plumeria tree. When I took the picture I looked up at the sky and thought...hmmm...that would be better if I go from underneath and center right in the middle of that gorgeous blue sky!

Sally.... they actually named a mountain after my soon to be bald head?  Seriously though.... I have learned so much about your area than I would have ever known.  And not just the basics that we hear about Hawaii. I would love to get to the Islands some day. You could be my tour guide. Thanks for this post.
