Am I the only one ANGRY that the June 30th deadline was not extended?

Reblogger Bill Travis

Lori made the post below about being angry because the Jue 30th deadline was not extended. I'm in agreement. They did not give enough time (60) days for an April 30 contract to close. They knew going in that it takes at least 90 to 150 days to get a short sale through the banks.

Congress voted NOT to extend the June 30th deadline to qualify for the $8000 or $6500 stimulus package - and you're not angry?

I have one Buyer waiting on Congress to vote to release more RD (rural development) funding before she can close. She's a single mother who has worked for a YEAR to improve her credit score and set aside money for closing. She desparately needs the $8000 stimulus incentive to complete some repairs after her purchase. She's already spent $1000 earnest money, $800 on inspections, $400 on appraisal and worked as much overtime as allowed to pay for that.

My Seller's Buyer is waiting on the $6500 stimulus money, and her Lender's Underwriter demanded that ALL repairs be made prior to closing (despite the fact that she has conventional financing and is paying 20% down), and we can't find available repair people who aren't already booked. [Expect a vent soon about Arvest Bank.]

We damn near killed ourselves before the April 30th deadline to get under contract. And Congress can't extend the time allowed for closing? Underwriting requirements are becoming more stringent, arbitrary and complicated - changing every day. Are our repair people, title companies and others in the industry expected to work 24 hours a day?

Congress voted NOT to extend the June 30th deadline to qualify for the $8000 or $6500 stimulus package - and you're not angry?

Stimulate the economy, then SHUT US DOWN?  I'm ANGRY! This extension would cost nothing - and will adversely affect hundreds of thousands of potential home owners. Where is the outrage???!!!!

Hi Bill-

I'm aggravated about this too.  It does not seem like a consumer-oriented decision. So many people, through no fault of their own, will not be able to meet the closing deadline.

Yea, it really stinks. I'm not a big tax credit guy, but if your going to do it, don't let the difficulty lenders are having processing the thing affect these folks

Yeah, I'm really not angry about it, not even mad or disappointed about it.

It is not over yet.  I still have faith NAR will get this extended even if it has to be retroactive.

I thought from all the blogs I read previously that it was going to happen and there was even a positive message from RPAC about it as well.  This is the first I heard that it wasn't going to happen for those already under agreement.  They may be concerned about the scammers out there that will try to back date agreements and their butts should be nailed to the wall.

They gave you plenty of time to close.  You should have known your short sale contract would take 90-150 days to close when you executed it.  If you needed 150 days, then you should have backed 150 days from the expiration date instead of staring at the date of April 30th (that date was for contracts that COULD close in 60 or less days, not your short sale).

There are a plethora of benefits to homebuyers in the U.S.  We don't need another socialist policy giving our money to credit others who are buying a home.  Good riddance to the tax credit (that I'm paying for).

Did i just read that Lori thinks an extension would cost NOTHING??????   Dead wrong she is.... it will cost $8,000 for every home sold under the extension period (and again, I'd be paying for it).

I am searching for a word that says MORE than just being angry.  I am furious.  How the doggone stubborn Republicans can blog this bill... is just crazy.  And... it figures... the guy above me is commenting about "socialist policies."  Sheesh... turn off Glenn Beck and come back to reality.
