Why working with Buyers and Sellers is just like dating!

Let me start off by saying I am not dating any of my clients...their all wonderful people but I find the similarities between Real estate representation and dating pretty funny....

I meet with people all week-long; buyers, sellers, investors, wholesalers, distressed home owners etc...etc... but for whatever reason during my consultations ive started to say something to the effect of " us working together is similar to dating; so we have to be comfortable with one another and share a reasonable level of respect and have strong communication; if I am represent you in buying or selling" don't really know when it started but at some point through the conversation; it just comes out.

So I was sitting down after another busy day and I realized I had 104 unread emails and 18 voicemails....(I know what your thinking) grrrr was my train of thought as well...lol so as I am sitting down trying to take a load off I decide to check those messages and emails and I discovered something real funny...I have about 15 people who want me all to themselves and I understand why but I also enjoy the journey with the people I encounter...lol

One client left 4 voicemails, 2 emails and a text...and what did she want?  just wanted to know if I got her first email asking me if we were still on for Fridays meeting

I returned her email by simply saying.....YES

See full size imageAnother client (with an angry tone) wanted to know if I was going to be around on Friday at 8pm because he wants to talk...

I explained to this guy that unfortunately I will not be around because I like to spend some time with my real girl friend so tonight my other spouses will have to take a back seat..lol

One buyer sent 4 text and 2 voice messages just wanted to know if I got the email about the house they were interested in? The last text said "why are you not answering your phone?" sounds familiar

Before calling back I looked up the house and it had been on the market for 454 days, had mold infestation, a flooded basement and was up for auction....lol I called her back and explained to her what was going on and she said " oh nevermind" lol

The funniest one was one particular client left and I quote "9 missed calls, 6 voicemails, 8 emails and 2 text" in one day and why?  because out of the blue she was available to talk and was angry because I was not...lol

My response was Mrs. seller although I am dedicated to working with you in handling the sale of your home you have to keep in mind that I do have other obligations and just because you are free on this particular day and time; does not mean that I am as well; if you would like to schedule a sit down I'll be more than happy to do that with you, but I cannot drop everything at the drop of the dime because you had an opening in your schedule...she understood and even laughed about her behavior, when I told her the clients wives tale.

See full size imageThe last one was from what we would call my nagging little brothers and sisters; I had an agent leave a voicemail, email and sent a text requesting showing instructions for a house that is clearly marked "UNDER CONTRACT" I won't even lie y'all I did not even respond...lol

I will be the first admit that I am one man...I don't have arms like an octopus and If I could be there for all of my clients all the time I would; but that is not possible unless I cloned myself and sent my i-robot out to do all the work while I kick back on the beach somewhere.

To all my clients past present and future....heres a toast to you all for keeping me on my toes and keeping things interesting.

I swear I love this SPORT!

You got it.....I have been around for awhile and if I get to a place where I don't want to work with someone, because they are to much to deal with.....I fire them.....and feel real good about it. I know when I die the last thing I will regret is on more escrow...

Eighteen voicemails! Holy cow, Malik. Do you not answer your phone? I don't think I've ever had more than three voicemails at any one time.
