Do Top Producers Have SUPER-POWERS?

Last Week we discussed the things you've been doing in your real estate career which have been working well for you and things which have been working less than ideally for you.

Today we’ll look in yet another different direction--in the direction of your future.

Question to ponder: Have you noticed how the agents who are the most successful have the same 24 hours per day as the people who are just doing OK? Have you wondered if they have a unique super-power which will warp the time continuum in a way as to give themselves a few extra hours every day? Not likely true …but wouldn’t super-powers be nice!

The reason they seem to get more done than us mere mortals is due to a high degree of  focus of their time and energy on doing the things which are the most productive in their real estate careers. Everyone else appears to be working just as hard as the top producers are, but the activities they spend their allotted time on unfortunately only produce minimal results.

When most people begin their real estate career they will spend the first year developing the habits which will become their normal day-to-day routine for many years to come. The problem is … if you don't learn how to emulate the habits of top producers early in your career, you will fall into a different set of habits altogether. And unfortunately they may be BAD HABITS! …These formed “bad habits” will then cause you to fall short of making the income that top producers make year after year after year.

Have you ever thought …. how do the same agents tend to be as successful as they are year after year?

It's because their day-to-day routines have them doing the things which consistently produce income. The good news is …you can also develop these same habits and make the kind of income you would like to be making …

If these top producers can do it in the same 24 hours per day that you have …doesn't it make sense to learn what they are doing with their time in real estate sales …and then do them?

Doesn’t seem like a hard question to answer does it? …But for some of you there will be hesitation because you will ask …How do I get started? What are the activities I will need to do? Will I still have time to get my nails done, or play golf, or go to the gym? The answer is YES to all of these questions.

Many will exhibit what I call “avoidance behaviors” and will refuse to be held accountable for their time …some will have self-doubt if they even have the ability to be successful at all. And some will give up before they even get started thinking that it is too hard.

Let me tell you something my father told me years ago …ANYTHING worth having is worth working hard for … Is financial security for you and your family worth fighting for? Is not having to worry where your next house or car payment comes from worth working hard for? Is being able to afford to take a few nice vacations every year worth the extra effort? I am hoping you are saying not only “Yes” but “HELL YES” about right now!

Think about an agent in your office who is making the kind of income you would like to  make ...as you begin to think about this person, make sure the agent you are thinking of is someone you like, admire, and feel is ethical in their business practices. Once you have this person in mind and know this person definitely has the qualities you would like to emulate, ask yourself the following questions:

1) What would it feel like for you to be making the amount of income this person is currently making?

2) How excited would you feel when you are now producing these results?

Now grab a piece of paper and a pen and do the following:

1) List the activities you feel this agent is probably doing every day which has made them a success. Be as specific as possible.

2) Now list the normal day-to-day activities which you are doing right now in your own real estate career.

3) Write down what you feel the important differences are between what you believe the top-producing agent is doing with their time and what you are doing with your time.

Now take a look at the differences which you wrote down. Does this give you a clearer idea of why the agent you admire is successful, and why you are not currently making the kind of income you desire in your real estate career?

How interested are you in changing your habits to emulate the habits of the agent whom you most admire?

Can you imagine the results once you learn how to do this? Super-Powers No….but Powerful YES …..If you cannot do this on your own … get a coach or mentor to help you with  Self Accountability, Time Management, and a plan for your Success Activities.

The 2011 Clock is Ticking…don’t let this be another “I wish I had” year.   Tick…Tick…Tick.

The secret is hard work, not wasting steps, reinventing the way you market as new media opens up and never getting comfortable. Stretch, learn, study, grow and it has to be fun, like a sport, passion or you need to take off the "R". Not everyone cut out to wear the "R" in the real estate herd. Not mean, just fact. I'm just saying.

I made my list and now I'm working on a plan to increase my networking activiies.  Your suggestion about hiring a coach is great.  I think I will look into a coach in 2011.

Thanks for writing!
