For years the old Walmart building on North Main Street in Taylor has sat empty, but that is all about to change. Marketplace Austin LTD has big plans to make over this building and make it functional once again. Marketplace Austin LTD has struck an agreement with Capital Leasing Management & Sales to lease the facility.
They intend to use the 62,400 square foot space to provide a place for start-up retail businesses to start out. Marketplace Austin LTD general manager and chief financial officer Mark Gindin had this to say, "Our business model for eight years has been to renovate existing buildings, and then offer them to rent for start-up or family-owned businesses." Taylor residents can expect to see those people who have home-based businesses, or always dreamed of starting their own business, located in this building.
Marketplace Austin LTD has been successful in doing this before in both north and south Austin. The North Austin Boulevard location is housed in an old Sam's Club and has as many as 2,000 to 3,000 visitors each weekend. The south Austin market is located in an Albertsons building that boasts 60,000 square feet and also draws a big crowd.
Marketplace Taylor will host an open house on Feb 5th and 8th from 10:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. Interested business owners can then reserve a space on February 12th between the hours of 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The amount to rent a space will vary depending on how big a space a business would like to occupy, but spaces could be as low as $300 a month or tables that cost $25 a day.
