About 30 vehicles lined the front of The Palm Springs Convention Center Monday afternoon for a vintage car show hosted by Concours d'Elegance as a Palm Springs Modernism Week event. A majority of the vehicles on display were from the mid-century modern period and boasted design elements from that era. Aviation and space age inspirations were prevalent among the automobiles chosen for the event.

Incorporating a functional minimalist design with whimsical detail was apparently a popular trend for mid-century vehicles. The cars seemed to either have heavily pronounced curvature or extreme straight lines and when lined up along the street next to each other, it was easy to grasp the extreme design licenses the automobile companies grasped in the late 1950s and early to mid 1960s.

Andy Linsky, a Palm Springs resident, spoke with spectators about his 1960 Ford Starliner explaining that it was an older restoration. James McCarty brought his restored 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 convertible to the show and it attracted a rather large crowd. Kent Robbins of Cathedral City said that he drives his 1960 DeSoto Adventurer around town occasionally. Robbins' DeSoto was in excellent condition and its tail fins and chrome detail were definitely a highlight of the event.

The Concours d'Elegance hosted the vintage car show, which was free to the public, on Monday as a precursor to The Concours' primary event being held at The La Quinta Resort & Club on February 26th and 27th in La Quinta, CA. More than 200 rarely seen vehicles will be on display at the famed hotel on Sunday, February 27, as a vintage car auction runs simultaneously. Entrance to that event is $25.00 however on Saturday, February 26, many of the cars will be available for viewing on Main Street in Old Town La Quinta from 8:00am until 2:00pm. There is no charge for Saturday's event.

Palm Springs Modernism Events continue to run until February 27 across Palm Springs. The vintage car show was from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Monday only.
