Alt Karlsbad in downtown Carlsbad Village, Carlsbad CAThe Carlsbad Citizens Academy is a 7-week program on consecutive Thursday evenings offering dinner and class sessions in varying locations throughout Carlsbad.

  • meet council members, department heads and staff
  • get to know the city projects, understand growth management and the budget
  • participate in discussions about Carlsbad's future - environment, traffic, recreation and more

Classes run from 5 until 8 with a city bus tour on one day at noon.

This sounds really interesting.  My parents live in Carlsbad.  I'm going to forward your blog to them to see if they're interested.  Cheers!

I have never heard of such a program set up by the the actual township. Most towns in my area have a "Welcome Wagon" which quite nice, but does not compare to Carlsbad. Nice building too.

Jeff, that is an interesting program, and I love the look of that building, very unusual.

Jeff,

That is an interesting building. Looks like it would be intriguing to go there.

Thanks, Bryan. I think it is a very cool thing for Carlsbad to do.

Maria - we have that sort of program too. But this takes it all to e  new leve. Bravo for the town providing this education to anyone who is interested.

George - I have a friend who went so I need to find out more. I'm impressed that this is in place. Talk about transparency.

Barbara-Jo - well my college German escpase, except to say "ja." See my comment to Steven below.

Steven - it's an old building with mineral springs and a spa.

A Florida police officer who moved to my hometown in Maine started a Citizen's Academy but along the lines of neighborhood watch. What you can do to help police in their job, what that job examined in detail is too. Good to know your town goverment, your taxpayer dollars at work.

Jeff:  I great example of responsible leadership ... thank you for sharing it ... perhaps if we understand more about our government (at all levels) we might get more involved as citizens in supporting it and the work we ask it to do!
