Geothermal heating in the mid-atlantic region is probably one of the more cost effective green options for many homeowners. Over this weekend i visited the Philadelphia Suburban Home & Garden Show and stopped by the booth of Ace Geothermal and chatted with Paul Caskey the general manager.
Ace Geothermal had some interesting facts displayed and I hope these will be readable for you.
If you need a new oil furnace and A/C unit the cost is likely to be about $11,000 installed for an average home about 2500 sq feet. Whilst the geothermal installation is more, there is a 30% tax credit and the annual savings on geothermal to oil allows the system to pay for itself in just under 5 years, with major savings beyond that.
Geothermal installation can be vertical, horizontal, a slinky loop or even in a pond or lake. Using the nearly constant 55 degree temperature from the earth it generates very efficient heating, cooling, and domestic hot water. Installing one of these systems allows you to slash your carbon footprint and save money at the same time.
Ace Geothermal is not the only company in the area providing these systems, so check out other local providers as well and compare prices. You may find that the savings for geothermal heating are not so difficult to find in a short period of time.
