Want some equity in your home?? Take off your skirt!!

Am I the only one who likes to attend inspections? It seems I learn something every time I attend one. This week was no exception. My listing is a modest cottage on pier and beam. Due to some soft spots and "leveling issues" we called in a foundation vendor.

It seems installing skirting around the foundation is the WORST thing a homeowner can do. Why you ask? Such skirting blocks the natural air flow. As a result, anything wood (read anything expensive) is going to rot. Home owners attempting to "dress up" their property can be setting themselves up for major repairs down the road.

So if you want to protect your home go au natural!

Doug, around here houses with skirts might also be likely to have wheels. Just kidding.

I have a listing built on pier and beam, sans skirt. I'm glad to now know of the advantage of being skirtless.

Doug- We have a lot of older homes in my area that are pier and beam also. Some of the owners have done the same thing, but fortunately they did leave some vented areas that help with he air flow.
