Yesterday I went to a farewell party for two dear long-time friends that are moving to New Zealand. And like all such affairs, the mood was festive and celebratory until it came time to not only say good night, but also to say goodbye.
It’s hard to believe that next week they will be living almost as far away from Newnan Georgia as possible, in a place now ebbing into winter as our hot southern summer approaches.
But even though they will be living in a different hemisphere and a dozen time zones away, some things will not change at all, because technology has made the world a lot smaller than it used to be.
The “open book” social sites do not discriminate by geography, and the ability to connect and share is not restricted by proximity.
Even though they are not here, we will not lose touch. We will always be an update, a tweet, an email or a video conference away.
And so to my dear friends, this is not adieu, but au revoir.
Godspeed and hope to see you soon.
