Did I do something wrong?!

Mortgage and Lending with Credit Werx, LLC.

I just experienced something that is a first for me. I posted before about a guy I'd been working with who decided not to go with me.

He sent me an email with an explanation.

He explained to me that he did not want to complicate matters and that he was feeling a feeling of exaustion  in dealing with this for the past couple of weeks. He also let me know that he appreciated the fact that my offer was competitive and asked me for my permission to to come to me for future financing and to send his friends and family to me.

I should also mention that what he was referring to with regard to wanting to keep it simple is that I was not the original lender that he came to for qualification. He was already approved with a couple of other lenders before coming to me. This is the guy who in one of my previous posts had a few Mortgage professionals send out appraisers all at once without telling all of us that several appraisers were on the way. My appraiser showed up second in line just a few minutes after the first appraiser left. He decided to go with the lender who's appraiser showed up first. Understandable since he did not want to pay for several appraisals and wanted this to be as simple as possible. I can't say that I agree with this method of choosing the mortgage professional whom you will work with but to each our own.

Here's whats strange. Today my manager and I went to check the mail together. I got a letter in the mail from this person.

Enclosed with the letter was a check written out to me for $50.00.

I have never been let down so easy. At first I was racking my brain trying to figure out if I did something wrong, but I could not come up with anything. After this I am going to take him at face value and believe that he really just did not want to complicate things any more than he had by dealing with multiple lenders at one time.

Instead of stewing over the fact that I did not get the loan I will stay in touch with this person and be his personal consultant whom he may call any time he needs to in order to get his questions answered. Hopefully if he needs financing in the future he will come to me first or if any of his friends or family members need financing he will send them to me.

You did not do anything wrong from what I see.  Some people like to express their appreciation even though they did not choose your services.  It happens all the time.  I've been to a listing interview and was told that several real estate companies were also being interviewed.  To make a long story short, people appreciate your services but will choose whomever they feel like.

One thing you might want to do is reconsider posting your blog.  Sometimes clients can find you on Active Rain and they will read your posts.  Imagine a customer or client reading his own words in a blog for all the world to see.

Way to do such an awesome job he is willing to refer others to you. Yes, keep in touch.  In fact, when the first referral crosses your desk from him, send out a very nice thank-you gift!

Jon - good point. I just edited the post to remove the content of the letters. I just think that this is a compelling story and I wanted to share it. You just gave me another great reason to call him. To ask him if I can post portions of his letters to me. I know that I didn't do anything wrong on this deal, I just wanted to capture what I was feeling when I initially lost the deal. Thanks for the comment

Mathew - Yeah first referral I get from him I'll send him a very nice gift. Thanks for the comment.
