Go outside and Play! Get over Yourself!

Remember when you were just a kid and bored or in a funky mood?  What would you Mom tell you to do? Go outside and Play! Get over Yourself!  I can still hear my Mom saying that to myself and my siblings - all 8 of us. Good grief - get these kids out of the house and give me some peace and quiet is what she was probably thinking!

Karen Fiddler posted Snap Out of it this morning and it reminded me of both my Mom and a coach I had years ago. Very rarely do I have a funky day because I had the good fortune of coaches that taught me to 'Snap Out of It'.  But if and when I do have some funky moments I know exactly what to do to elevate my level of feeling better and jumping back into the flow.  I literally Go Outside and Play!  I really do!

There is no point in 'moping' around the house or office. It just keeps me and anyone else around me in that place of Oh whoa is me - I'll just go out in the garden and eat worms kind of place.  Yuck! That's not what I want to create. I had one of those days this week. I was exhausted from working long hours this last few weeks and I was attempting to keep working.  Enough!  Get out of Here - Snap out of it! Thankfully I was smart enough to take my own advice (even while feeling funky). I played some golf, went to lunch with a friend, went shopping and took a nap. Yeah!  I was back to feeling fantastic once again.

Many people have this idea of that they need to keep on 'stuggling' through whatever problem or bad feelings they're having.  They don't. Struggling is an option. They can make a different choice. And my advice is to make that choice asap - why wait?  All the good stuff is waiting for you on the feel good side!

So next time you've feeling funky - remember this post and make a new choice! Go outside and Play - or whatever trips your trigger of feeling good. Put on silly looking glasses, go to the park, make a new recipe, play golf, go for a walk, get a massage, get up and dance, make stupid faces in the mirror - that ought make you laugh, just do something fun and get over yourself. This too will pass if you allow it!

Go outside and Play! Get over Yourself!

Anna this was so brilliant that tomorrow morning I am going to the beach with a bloody mary and a book and I will sit on my butt all day and look at the Atlantic.  Thanks for the pass.

That's a great way to live one's life. I can't see why kids can be goofy and adults must be prim and proper...

You really do have some great advice Anna....I need a trip to Phoenix...I'd love to spend a couple days in YOUR world.....LOL!

Seriously, I get in the funk WAY to much. And I like your idea of just go out and play. Now, I have some issues with it only because my biz is now way, way off...so I feel like I have to keep it to the grindstone day and night....but a fresh look at things might just be what is needed.

Now, is it wrong to go off and do something, and yet make a post out of it? I'm thinking of all the places (day trips around ATL) I have wanted to do and could see some new things...but still get something out of it in another sense? Or am I defeating the purpose?

Maybe I need to try it both ways.....

Liz - my pleasure! Take as many passes as needed!  Enjoy the beach and those bloody marys!  I for one am looking forward to friends arriving shortly and we're going to hang out in the pool sipping on some yummy sangaritas!  Oh la la!

Karen - by a long shot.  Sometimes we all can't see the forest through the trees. When we focus on 'what is' we're not looking at what we want....and that's where all the fun is. And then to make matters worse when we focus on what we don't like or upset us or whatever....we feel bad which brings us further down the hole.  Focus on what you want - the feeling will improve and everything else does as well.    Does that make sense? It sure does to me!  This stuff works!

Paul....what you calling me prim and proper? Why thanks!  LOL

Lloyd...don't wait too long. Take a smile and feel good break - often.  Dr Banana's orders!

Thom.....that is coming soon. Rolling out a coaching program this next 6 to 12 months.  Fun stuff. I know it sounds upside down to just let it go and stop what you're doing if you're frustrated or whatever.  But here's the deal....the more you are not eager and excited but rather frustrated or struggling - the more crappy stuff will hang around.  It's good to get really clear on what you want - feel good and make that the biggest job you have.  Really.  If you practice it long enough it wil come easy to you.

Anna, I keep a list of the things I want to do.....when I'm bored I go to the list and do what it says. This week, I worked on a painting, wrote in a journal, did one of my whale tales, started a new book.....all because I refuse to sit and do nothing!

Anna, I’ve never been one for pity parties or boredom. If I’m even close to any negative feelings I knock it out. I finish what I must if I have no other alternative and then I go out to do something I find enjoyable. For me that’s anything from gardening to cooking up a good dinner for the family.

My mom used to say “Stop taking yourself so seriously, you’re really not as important as you think”.

Anna..cute photo and great post.  We have to learn to keep letting that child from within out to play. It's a gift to be able to laugh at ourselves as well as with others.

Anna- Even your post was cheery looking!  I loved it.  My husband likes to say "Get Over It"!  We all have to sometimes take a step back or out and get a fresh jolt of life!

Anna you are so right! When the stress of  our biz gets to you get outside! Here in Florida we are fortunate to be able to do that almost anytime and it works! The "snap out of it !" quote has been part of my own personal mantra since 1987 when I heard Cher utter those words in Moonstruck and it stuck with me!

You really are sunshine for cloudy days. My daughter's mantra is "Go big or stay home."  And that can apply to life, " Go big - each and every day!" And yes, just get over yourself! Thanks again Anna!

Anna - she did get me a little bit wet - and then the look on her face was priceless as she wanted to laugh but wasn't sure if she was gonna be in trouble!  Of course I had to laugh too - so then she was free to giggle a bunch at wet "Mema"  - LOL

Such great advice, Anna! My mum wouldn't let us be moody at all ("or else she'd really give us something to be sad/mad/upset about...").

Anna,

Excellent advice.  Had to take a break this week after a ridiculously stressful day when my normal cheery personality left!  So, played tennis and crushed the competition.  Boy did I need that:-)

All the best, Michelle

Anna, I think if there is a day I really can't get out of that funk, I will call you instead, lol.

When I am in foul mood, I like to go outside to enjoy the sunshine and outdoor just makes me feel better, not closed in.  And a cup of hot tea and some delicious little treats will do the trick for me, too ;)
