Seattle RainCamp & ActiveRain's 5th Anniversary Party - What a TRIP!

Steve & ReneeWho would have traveled across the country to be a part of ActiveRain's 2nd Seattle RainCamp and participate in ActiveRain's 5th Anniversary celebration?  Well, ME!  Hundreds of others also participated in RainCamp Seattle and what a great time we had!  Besides learning new tricks of the trade, meeting many of the West Coast ActiveRain members and celebrating with the AR staff was simply an incredible experience!

Travel took me through Detroit to arrive in Seattle on Sunday just in time to meet up with my dear friends, Steve Shatsky of Dallas and Renee Burrows of Las Vegas before heading to bed at the fabulous Edgewater Hotel, situated on the coast of Seattle.  Now, that was a treat and I'm so sad that I didn't have time to shoot a few photos of this historic hotel located right on the water where even the Beattles have slumbered there in the past--a really cool hotel!

Monday, Day 1 of ActiveRain Camp Seattle was filled with great information from Bob Stewart, Brad Andersohn, Todd Clark, Ben Kinney and Bacon Salt founder and Chief Baconpreneur, Dave Lefkow discussed the do's and don't's of marketing!  A wealth of information was shared on Day 1 including some great tips:

  • Advertise/identify new potential clients - What works for you and what doesn't?
  • How to easily capture and convert leads - Via your website, Facebook and Twitter
  • Show the love to your existing customers - you've already proven yourself to them; why not stay in touch?
  • Give customers reasons to spread the love - give the type of service that you expect.
  • Provide a stream of valuable, targeted info - keep your potential clients informed and equiped with the information that they need on a regular basis
  • - manage all of your profiles
  • - free websearch
  • About.Me
  • - converts anything on your computer to a pdf file
  • Engagement + community - specific to demographics, life changes, neighborhoods, communities
  • Share events using Facebook and online media to drive attendance to your sites

The gang at the first Starbucks store in Seattle
Of course this is just the tip of the iceberg but, if one of these tips helped any of us to procure only one client, our trip was paid for!  The evening brought even more networking with others attending the event and it was such a pleasure to meet so many AR members!  How fortunate that we also enjoyed dinner with Jon Washburn at one of his favorite sushi restaurants--and we surely did see why he loves the place!  I always love going out to dinner with Jon--we're both foodies, our food preferences are similar and he always has the best places in store!

Meeting the likes of Lori Cofer (I love this girl!), Charles Buell and René Fabre, to name just a couple, really did just make my trip!  We shared lots of laughter and it truly felt as though we had known each other for years and years.

Tuesday brought more information from Bob Stewart, Rich Jacobson, Steve Shatsky and I chimed in with a few tips also!  Information shared included:

The evening was also just as exciting, with a wonderful dinner at one of Seattle's finest seafood restaurants and a personal guided tour of Pike's Place Market hosted by none other than Brad Andersohn!  I could definitely live in Seattle--the seafood and fresh fruits and vegetables are to-die-for!  Niki shared one of his favorite places, Starbuck's very first store; of course, we just HAD to try a mocha coconut frappachino--even after all we ate for dinner--and, yes, we snapped lots of photos of this historic Starbucks.

Brad Andersohn & Lori CoferWe then had an evening celebration at the Hard Rock Café in honor of ActiveRain's 5th anniversary.  Lots of nostalgia as we were honored with the presence of Jon Washburn and some of the 'original' AR staff.  Kerrie Greenhalgh, Kelly Clifford, Niki Parekh and Kelly Pflugrath and all of the ActiveRain staff did a fabulous job of putting on a great event and making everyone feel so welcome in Seattle.  We couldn't have asked for more hospitality!

The following day, ActiveRain hosted a wonderful BBQ at the AR offices.  What a treat to see where everyone works and the incredibly cool office from which they steer this unbelievable community.  Thank you ActiveRain for your wonderful hospitality, all of the delicious food and especially for the camaraderie.  We love you guys and girls!

I felt the need to attend RainCamp Seattle and the 5th anniversary event because ActiveRain has meant so much to me.  My business has flourished since joining in 2007.  I have not only learned how to blog but, have learned so much about everything concerning real estate and technology and met the most wonderful friends here in the Rain.  My business has grown by leaps and bounds since joining and I feel that I owe 90% of it to the staff and members here.

I have traveled to Seattle, Dallas and Orlando (as well as here in Charlotte) to meet as many ActiveRain members as I can!  And, what a treat it has been for me!  I've never been disappointed and have, each time, walked away with something that has helped me grow my business.  The $1,000 cost for the trip to Seattle will definitely result in buisness that will cover that cost at least ten-fold--it always does!

If you wish you would have attended, it's not too late to sign up for the next RainCamp in Los Angeles!  ENJOY!

Debe, RainCamp Home Turf had to be special. No RainCamp is a disappointment for the information and socialization, but to have one at Base Camp would have been just . . . . GREAT!

What a blast!  The fish toss, the slippers, the first Starbucks, the "Yummy", none of this would have been so memorable if it weren't for RainCamp.  So glad I was there and got to be part of it.

The people are really what make these events so spectacular, but the content and knowledge that comes from the sharing at these things is what can truly help your business flourish in so many ways.

Thanks for sharing this Debe and for sharing all that you did this years at RC.

You rock!

I soooooo wanted to be at this RainCamp. It just wasn't to be though. I'm thinking about the Chicago RainCamp... I'd consider Los Angeles but only if Jane will pick me up at the airport, house and feed me, drive me around, and then drop me back at the airport when it's all over.... Jane?

I am glad you enjoyed Seattle. I lived there for 5 years and most of my family still lives in Washington and Oregon. I have not been back in over 15 years. We wanted to go to see our family but then my sister left to Hawaii because here daughter was having a baby and she wanted to be with her for a while. I also had all our plans ready to go to raincamp but then we had this huge opportunity for me to speak at an REO Conference in Las Vegas and the days apart were too close to do both and still run two businesses here, especially when negotiating short sales. I was able to tell over 200 agents, brokers and asset managers about Active Rain and only 4 of them actively blog so that is a lot of new member potential for AR. I hope many of them join. Katerina

Okay I haven't been to a Raincamp yet this year. Would love to go to either Los Angeles or Chicago. But not really happy that I missed Raincamp Seattle. Seems like you all had a great time. Would've loved to meet every single person I saw in your pictures Debe. Thanks for sharing. Great post.

Adam:  Thank you!  It truly was awesome!

Marc:  Thanks and I do wish I would have gotten to meet you as well!

Lynda:  WOW, can you believe it!  Wish I would have gone to that one or one of the others that they had that first year.  I didn't realize you'd been here the entire time!

Charles:  The pleasure was all mine!  I am SO lucky to have met you and at least gotten a few minutes to chat with you!  What a TREAT!

Rich:  What can I say?  You are everything that I thought you'd be!  It was so nice to meet you and your wife in Seattle and believe me, the trek there was such a pleasure.  I'm looking forward to the next time we get to hang out!

Sally:  Thank you and it was a pleasure meeting you as well!  Glad our presentation could help and if you ever get stumped...just read others' posts here!  That should cure the writer's block for you!

Michael:  LOL  I almost bought one of those Sleepless t-shirts while I was there--as it was definitely reflective of my time there!

Cheryl:  Thank you, thank you and thank you!  LOL  I'll see if I can't do a video on that--great idea.  I need to 'beef' mine up so, that's not a bad idea.  It won't be until the weekend that I can work on it and I'll need Deb Brooks' help too!

Mike:  I'll probably see you there then--if the stars align!!

Ed:  That was my 4th one and I've loved every one of them but, this one was SPECTACULAR!

Don & Judi:  Bookmark away--I hope they help.  There was a TON of information presented there, for SURE!

Michael:  Thank you so much!  I wish they were better but, I just HAD to get them up before another week went by!

Our Brad!!  What a great time we had and oh, how YUMMY it was, indeed!  We did learn SOOO much, and from you, more and more motivation!  You're the one that ROCKS and thank YOU for everything!  I do wish we'd have had more 'play' time though!  We had a blast with you and can't wait for the next one!

Mike:  Thanks and it was GREAT!

Frank & Karen:  I'm so sorry to hear about Frank's Dad.  There will be other RainCamps and I'm sure Chicago in October will be just as spectacular.

Connie:  Yep, we needed another fabulous roomie--especially one who provides the beverages AND the glasses!!

Deb:  I'm still kicking myself that I didn't go to Dallas--it would have been SUCH a treat to have met you!  We still have some work to do together though!

Andre:  Definitely--you must attend at least one!  What about Chicago?  That one is coming up soon!  Your head will be spinning when you leave!

Debra:  Hey, I'm home and it's forgotten!  The memories of the trip will last a lifetime though--we DID have such a wonderful time!

Paul:  Thanks and I day!

Craig:  She offered to take Ray to Universal if we'd come to LA so, I'm sure that you'd be alot easier on her!!  No DOUBT she'd do that for you!!

John:  Good catch--and I agree!  (That's why I snapped that one!!)

Katerina:  That's great!  We had a few hundred attendees in Seattle--it was truly the best RainCamp I've been to!  The weather was absolutely perfect--in fact, it didn't rain one drop while we were there!  It was a crazy time but, I managed to get two Offers submitted on Day 1 and another on Day 2 so, there was definitely alot of working going on while I was there as well.  Thankfully they are 3 hours behind us and I could get up at 6:00 and work until 8:30 and it was 9-11:30 here!  Worked beautifully for me!  I even dealt with a few short sales while there; what ever happened to taking a 'real' vacation?!

Larry:  I didn't mean for it to sound like an ad but, you know how I LOVE ActiveRain!!  I just thought it was so well put-together and the entire thing just went off without a hitch--AND I actually learned even more goodies for my biz!

Lanre:  We missed you!!  Loved your comments on the photos on FB too!  You would have fit right in with the crazy people I was hanging with there!  LOL  The post has only a fraction of the information that was shared there--If I only get 3 things implemented, I'll have a boost in business in the very near future!!  Now, to get caught up and IMPLEMENT!!

Debe, love this post on the 5th Anniversary celebration and RainCamp. the .pdf tip is especially relevant for me - thanks!

We almost made it, but with our son's graduation from high school, my BFF from high school who lives there just returning from Eurpoe, and business, the timing just wasn't right. So glad you and others have shared and documented the event! Definitely have to go to Starbucks 1 when we do finally visit later this year!
