Rather than leave a comment about my experience with IMSD I decided to share a sample of what yesterday’s webinar Blogging for Business covered.
How to write an effective blog post
Title:
· Should be geographically specific – location
· Short and concise – warned about long titles that look like news headlines
· Named after the phrase you want to rank
Content: The body of the blog
· Keyword density 2-4%
· Length 300-500 words (300 words with 2% density = key word used 6 times)
- 500 words using 4% density = keyword used 20 times
· Start and end with keyword phrase … keywords can be used interchangeably
· 2-4 outgoing links – links to our sites, WordPress, Facebook page … not the competitor’s sites such as Trulia, Zillow, etc.
· Use media (photos, video) for user experience and be sure to tag them
· The first sentence and the last sentence should have the key phrase you want to rank
- Example beginning sentence: Blossom Valley Homes continue to be affordable homes in San Jose
- Example ending sentence: If you want more information on Blossom Valley homes then contact Kathleen Daniels at 1-800-972-1822
Tags:
· Tags are like a table of contents, or index, for the blog. Use tags that explain what the blog is about. Example: Blossom Valley homes
· Link the tag, and key phrase Blossom Valley homes to other blogs on the same topic
· Write multiple articles about the same key word phrase
· Be consistent with tags. One should be our name. Minimum 3, no more than 6
I have never used my name as a tag. That was one of the crown jewels of this class! A lot more was covered. This is just a sample. The IMSD teaches so much and give practical ways to implement what we learn. It’s called homework!
I highly recommend making the investment and completing the IMSD! I have only one class remaining to complete the course which I will complete on Friday, April 20, 2012.
