BlackberriesOur Crackberries Keep Our Options Open

Yeah, we know it's NOT an iPhone!  Maybe the next one will be.  Most probably will be, but two years ago Verizon wasn't stocking the iPhone, and a Blackberry Storm II seemed like the best fit for us, and it serves its purpose well!

We had a TREO 700p prior.  Aaaack.  Frequent reboots and trying to tether that phone to our laptops when we were away from home was a real hassle.  We each have a Blackberry Storm II, although Bill's is a bit worse for the wear of the two (a few too many tumbles out of the hip holster).  But the primary functions we need, they do well.

Email pushes regularly, both our work and personal accounts feed smoothly.  We both have visibility to the business email at all times, and that helps tremendously with keeping us both of the same page all the time even when we're not in the same place.  Get a contract while away, download and view.  Maybe a little small, but at least we don't have to wait until we get back to the office to find out the details.

And if we're away from home and need Internet access to the laptop and no free WiFi is available?  We can tether with Verizon or PDANet software.

Need a flashlight in a pinch?  There's an app for that, and we've used it to illuminate a dark basement trying to find the light pull string.

Need blog pictures?  They come with a camera that's better than our original digital camera, so quite a few of our blog posts benefit from always having that phone ready to go.  Push a photo straight to Facebook?  Piece of cake.

It's also great for taking a picture of where we parked in Scooby 7 (perfect for airport parking).  Need to look up some equipment information later?  Zoom in on the furnace nameplate and snap a shot.  See a poster for an upcoming local event?  Snap a picture, now it's ready for future blog development.

We will say the Internet capability is a bit on the weak side.  We can access our mobile MLS, accepts leads from Remax.com and a host of other tasks, but definitely have a little phone envy when we watch the iPhone and Droid users blazing around.

Overall, having these two Blackberry phones has been a tremendous step up, but we are looking forward to the next step forward!  The good news, the longer we wait, the better then next generation of phones will be!

Good afternoon BLIZ,

You will love the iPhone when you take the plunge. I'm waiting for the fall to upgrade to the latest one..Geno has it and Siri is a sweetheart:).

Dorie, We've seen enough of them and heard enough raving fans to know it's the way things are going.  Blackberry may be another extinct tech company in just a matter of years at the rate things are going.

Bliz- I was a resisting woman. And my daughter was like the borg.  My first "smart" phone (and that's not what I called it when I got it) was just more than a year ago.  I had a mobile lightweight wifi laptop, I was good.  But when my daughter just HAD to HAVE the iphone the very minute verizon had them available I was handed down (or was it up) her old Droid.  Now when October comes and I'm upgrade available I'm not sure which way I'm going to go.  I love my slide out keyboard.  But there are iPhone apps not available to Android.  But I still have until October to figure it out.  But I too have loved the camera for many of the reasons you mentioned.

Tammy, I think it's the real estate oriented apps available for iPad and iPhone that have us leaning in that direction over Droid.

Bliz, I am glad to know someone has been happy with the Storm. I had one, and that was one to many. I swore at it everyday until I got my Droid. I think you are right RIM has let the world pass it by.

Bliz,

I have an iPhone and I love it. That being said, the day I decide to retire from real estate...it gets the hammer.

I have the I phone and I really like it.  I can't believe how far I've come with technology.  I think I'm going to do that contest.

I just got rid of my crackberry when it started cracking up.  A little too many tumbles had it not letting me answer my calls and it was turning on the camera and taking pictures by itself!!  She had been possessed!  I used to love the Blackberry but they don't make em like they used to.  So, now I have two iPhones..one for business and the other for Angry Birds...don't ask lol :)!

Tom, We heard the first Storms had issues.  Our Storm IIs have actually been pretty decent.  The touch screens have the occassional issues with being too sensitive or not sensitive enough, but after two years I should probably expect some of that.

Rich, I can relate!

Liz, That contest was too easy not to take part in!

Anita, Technology moves so fast that two years is about as far as we can go without a boost in capability just to keep up.

Brenda, Mine has taken a bit of a beating.  Did you know you can slide across a marble floor pretty well when your Crackberry falls out of the holster and lands just under your foot as you step down?  Yep, got a good one foot slide and a nice scuff mark on the top corner out of that one!  Bill

I recently purchased an Ipad, but still use my Droid phone.  After having the Ipad, I don't use the phone a much.  It's so much faster, but I realize I still need a Smart phone.  Never had a Blackberry.

Bliz, I did have the first of the Storms, and maybe that was the problem. That said it is the worst phone I have ever had. I too had the Treo. As bad as it was it was it was a shining star compared to my Storm.

I accidentally dropped my crackberry in my dog's water dish and I saw that as the cosmos telling me it was time for the iPhone.  I wish I would have done it sooner.  Oh my goodness!  It is miles and miles and miles ahead of the Blackberry!

I tried a blackberry. After a week I was so frustrated I returned it. From there I went to Droid and eventually to an iPhone which is where I plan to stay for a while.

Dave,  From what we've seen of iPhones they're going to be a huge player for a long time.
