The brand new 1600 W Pleasure building and the old 1600 W Pleasure look.

I did a blog a few months ago with a picture of a house that gave the Sleuths a fit because they couldn't find it.  They just didn't remember it.  It was located at 1600 W Pleasure and was torn down several years ago.  To refresh your memory, here is the house.

After being just two vacant lots for many years, it was sold and now we have this new look at the location.

Patrick Connell did it up right with landscaping, driveways, and a lovely building.  I also like the big 1600 on the front of the building.  Too often we have to guess what the number of a commercial building is.

Congratulations, Patrick, on a beautiful new building on W. Pleasure in Searcy Arkansas.

Yes Barbara, it was hard to find the location of a house no longer there but I nailed it nevertheless. At least I did better than the last one. That new structure is a respectable replacement for the wonderful double porch house that graced 1600 W. Pleasure before.

I like the Indian style architecture and trees behind. This building look is common in New Mexico or Arizona. Is that a fireplace chimney on the right?

Don, there are lots of trees around it but none left on his land that I know of.  That is not a chimney.  I think it may be a ladder of some sort.

The style of that house at 1600 W Pleasure would fit  a dozen or more houses  in Searcy in the 40's.  In fact, I think I remember a similar style house just across W Pleasure from D. D. Young's house at College Street.

Harold Gene, I think a similar style home is just being torn down right now.  D. D.'s son lived in it when I first arrived in Searcy.  I'll bet it is the one you refer to.  This was about a week ago.  I'm thinking is is gone completely now.

Anita, the problem is 1211 W Pleasure is an old filling station now.  See.  It might be worth a blog by itself.

The house is behind it and owned by the same folks, according to the courthouse data.

Mary, you are a wealth of info there.  So this IS the DD Young house, just moved around the corner.  It was sold in 2004 by DD Young, Jr. along with this filling station.  My listed house is right beside the filling station.

And the houses look a lot alike but the Young one apparently had an enclosed front porch.

Barbara, are you saying this house is the moved D.D Young house?

DD Young House ?

Mary has sure provided some interesting bit of history. House moving has always been fascinating and we have discussed it before. I got a Google Earth satellite view of the area at S. College and W. Pleasure in 1990. There is a structure that could be the D.D. Young house if it's not the one Barbara showed. That's the best I can do.

I think we have enough house pics to satisfy everyone but I'll do one more per Mary's request. Again, this is a 1990 Google Earth view. Fun activity for a rainy day.

Don, you are a photo whiz!  Thanks.  Bet the one at 1600 W Pleasure and the S College one were so similar until they enclosed the front porch.  Note the gable in front of each.
