Living in the heart of a city like San Francisco brings all sorts of new experiences.
One for me is learning to embrace billboards. Yes, billboards. Now, if I had my druthers, I'd have the billboard taken down from the building next door, but since I don't I decided to enjoy it. The message changes every month or two; some appeal to me more than others; none take away my enjoyment of the view beyond.
It's fascinating watching a new sign go up, wondering what will appear. Long gone are the days when strips of a message would go up wallpaper style; now it's more like shrink wrap!
And here's my favorite one to date -- I was sorry to wave goodbye to C3PO!
Are you ready to Live your San Francisco Dream?
Billborads are big money in bustling cities like SF. I don't really remember any growing up there in Nob Hill...
Hi Lottie, yes the day of the paper sheet boards is a thing of the past but the back-lit boards can be pretty cool!
Jennifer, I don't believe this one at the corner of Jackson and Van Ness has been here very long. The current motorcycles don't do anything for me, but I DID like C3PO!
Billboards do serve a purpose but they do tend to create a little clutter when there are too many of them in one place. I hope the ones in your area only have the best messages.
Some messages are nicer than others. I'm not too keen on motorcycle racing, but the races finish this weekend--I suspect I'll have a new surprise waiting for me soon.
Most of our billboards are really mundane in Sacramento. The billboards in San Francisco are pretty cool. I also like going to LA and seeing all the TV shows splattered on billboards. Actually, it would be better if we had no billboards at all anywhere. Like on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Lottie - We don't have billboards up here in Tahoe, so it's been a while since I really thought about them, or how they are put up these days. I really enjoyed your perspective and seeing one go up. Great post!
Somehow in the City a billboard isn't quite as out of place. Since I can't change it, I'll like it!
Laura, I'm glad you enjoyed this post. It is interesting watching the billboard change.
