Should I Get A Home Inspection When Buying A West Babylon NY Coop?
And the answer is.......YES!
Some of you reading know what a coop is. They are apartments, not single family homes. So why get a home inspection for a coop? Here are my reasons you should get a home inspection for a coop:
- If the homeowner improved on the coop including the electric, then you want to know it was all done correctly and to code.
- The home inspector will check for leaks under the sink. They will press on the walls in the tub area to check for softness which can be a sign of water damage behind the walls.
- They check electric outlets to make sure they are functioning.
- If there is a washer and dryer in the unit, the home inspector will check to make sure the venting for the dryer was done properly and to make sure the washer doesn't leak.
Two years ago I had buyer-clients that bought a nice coop in Islip, NY. The seller completely renovated the apartment and it was gorgeous! I advised them to get a home inspection to make sure everything was done to code and was safe. The listing agent threw a fit about it but oh well. Turns out the seller overloaded the updated electric panel and had to correct it.
So, get the home inspection for that coop because it's better to be safe than sorry.
