The only thing that sustains one through life is the consciousness of the immense inferiority of everybody else, and this is a feeling that I have always cultivated.
- Oscar Wilde
Oh have I met Mr. Wilde! At times he has taken the form of a lender, other times the form of a Realtor. Then there are the times when Mr. Wilde was a client.
The point is there are a number of people in and around this business that have the same attitude that Mr. Wilde adopted... one of feeling superior to those around themselves. So where do you fit in to this? Do you feel better than those around you?
Personally I think it may be best to take the attitude of service to others. After all, we are all members of a service oriented business. Yet so many times "professionals" in this business can tend to think their role is more important or more honorable that anyone else's.
So when working for a client, whether as a buyer's agent, seller's agent, loan officer, appriaser, attorney... no matter the role, please remember that getting your job done may well rely on the rest of the professionals that you are working with. Seek to help make their jobs easier and more successful, and everyone wins... especially the clients we ALL serve.
Let's work together to take care of our clients. With the right attitudes and motivations, this entire industry will turn around in a way none of us could imagine.
