Things To Do Around Suffern NY Labor Day Weekend 2013
I can't believe that the summer is almost over. Where oh where has the summer gone?
Labor Day is just around the corner. Here's your opportunity to get in your last licks enjoying the final days of summer before the onset of FALL and the end of our lazy hazy summer fun days.
If you're looking for a great way to spend those last few days of the season, here are some suggestions.
CORNucopia - For a Corny good time you might consider a visit to Phillipsburg Manor just over the bridge in Westchester for their first ever Corn Festival. You'll be taking part in all sorts of corn related activities including a cornival, corn eating, corn cooking demos, corn maizes, etc.
WHile you're at it you can take a tour of the 18th centruy home and mill (and watch some corn grinding demonstrations). You'll be entertained with live folk music performed by the Tappan Cowboys and The Ebony Hillbillies, while you much on your free bag of popcorn or other corn munchies available for purchase (cornbread, corn chips, kettle corn, corn chili, corn ice cream).
So bring your family and come prepared to spend a fun day.
Phillipsburg Manor is located at 381 N Broadway in Sleepy Hollow NY. The festival hours are from 10:00 to 5:00PM from Saturday August 31, 2013 through Monday September 2, 2013.
Admission is $14; $12 for seniors; $8 for children 3-17 and free for members and children under 3.
Piermont Piers and Marsh. If you've never strolled the Piermmont Pier or explored the peninsula, this would be a great weekend to view this 1000 acre salt marsh on the banks of the Hudson. Paradise Boats, rents kayaks, canoes and rowboats, and also sponsors guided tours. Hours are, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends and holidays. Call 845 359-0073 to reserve, register, and learn more.
New York Renaissance Faire - If you've never attended a Renaissance Faire, come to New Yorks' and enjoy a day full of fun, where fantasy rules. It's held weekends from Aug3 Through Sept 22, 2013 and Labor Day at Sterling Forest, in Tuxedo Park, NY. Its a recreation of a Renaissance or Medieval village, filled with costumed actors, crafts and games, giving visitors the illusion that they have stepped back in time, romping thru Elizabethan England.
You'll have a chance to partake in 16th century carnival games, hear wandering musicians and storytellers, view jugglers and magicians, strolling minstrels and MORE, all dressed in renaissance costumes. There are plenty of family friendly activities, craft demonstrations, jousting tournaments, and skits with audience participation to entertain you. It's great escape!
Hours are from 10:00AM to 7:00PM. For further information call 845.351.5171 or visit their website for directions, Renaissance Faire coupons or ticket purchases
These are just a couple of the pickings available for this weekend. Personally I think the cornucopia sounds novel and fun. But, whatever you decide to do this weekend, enjoy your last hurrah and make it a fun one.
