The Bank of America Building in Charlotte is undoubtedly one of the best looking skyscrapers in the world, let alone the country, and architect Cesar Pelli should be congratulated for designng it. But where did he find ispiration for its superb design? I think I know. Compare the BOA Building with Harkness Tower at Yale University, where Pelli once served at Dean of the Architecture School. Although the contruction materials are different, and Harkness Tower is not habitable but rather just a very tall bell tower, both have the same dramatic stepped taper and pinnacle crown. Only Pelli knows for sure, but I believe that the BOA Building, which Charlotte is lucky to have, has a secret Ivy League pedigree.

Nathaniel:  VERY interesting!  You're right, only Pelli knows for certain but, I do love that building aka bell tower!  Makes you wonder if his inspiration was conscious or not during the beginning phases of his design.  I did always think that the pinnacle crown was representative of our German Queen's crown (The Queen City).
