Spring in Malden, MA! Pearl Street Lilacs! Having lived on the East Coast and Europe the only thing I miss during Spring is the Lilacs. Here in Southern California I have not seen Lilacs since we have lived out here.

So it was a special treat to see the Lilac Bush blooming on this trip to Malden, MA. It bought back memories how much my mother used to enjoy and love the Lilacs! Having relocated to the Greater Los Angeles  17+ years ago this was a special treat for me

Hi Endre, I also remember my Mom's adoration for Lilacs. We had a huge tree and the blooms in my reach always made for many many arrangments around the house.

William yes I remember the arrangements in our home as well. It was so fragrant and I can almost smell it now....

Our lilacs are really late this year.  But, ah, I, too love the scent.  And, while it doesn't remind me of my mother....it really reminds me of my best friend, my grandma!

Hi Endre... My mother too loved her lilacs. Growing up in Earlington, we had a whole row of them on the westside of our home, about 8 trees or so. She just so loved them when they came into bloom. I remember how lovely it smelled. Ours were mostly the purple but a two of the trees were grafted by my great uncle with the white variety and as the years went by they'd be from white to purple with a lot of different shades inbetween.

Ron, you are lucky to have Lilacs, here in Southern California I have not seen them for over 17+ years....must be a climate issue for them to grow...

Rene' I remember the white ones as well as I was growing up, but predominately it was always the purple ones....interestingly some had stronger fragrance than others....

Another reason to take a trip home Endre.  It's great to have the opportunity to do this.  I grew up with lilacs and I have them in my yard near the bedroom window.  Such a treat.
