South Pasadena CA Tournament of Roses Parade Float Update Jan 01, 2015
The countdown to January 1, 2015 is here and it will soon be time for the 126th Annual Tournament of Roses Parade(better known as the Rose Parade). This is an update of the city of South Pasadena’s entry into the parade. While most of the floats are professionally designed and built with corporate sponsorship, the city of South Pasadena is one of seven(and is the oldest) self-built floats in the parade.
Late Sunday evening, I stopped by the float building site to check on progress -- flowers have arrived and volunteers are busy working three shifts to make sure everything is in order for the five-and-one-half-mile trip down Colorado Boulevard this Thursday. This year’s parade theme is “Inspiring Stories” and South Pasadena’s entry is entitled “Still Winning”. Riding on the float will be a group of women from throughout Southern California who call themselves the Los Angeles Pink Dragons. Affectionately known as the Pinks, the women are breast cancer survivors who are also members of an award winning dragon boat team.
