Get ready ghouls and ghosts; Halloween is quickly approaching. If you live in the East Valley and are wondering where the best place to take the little ones trick-or-treating, the answer may surprise you. It’s not Chandler, Gilbert, or Mesa—it’s the Ahwatukee Foothills. Now, I’m not plugging Ahwatukee just because I live here, but according to Zillow.com, Ahwatukee provides the most candy with the least amount of walking and fewest safety risks in the entire East Valley.

Here are a few great neighborhoods within Ahwatukee that I would highly recommend.

  •  Club West (come visit me!)
  •  Mountain Park Ranch
  •  Lakewood
  •  Eagle Ridge (gated –call me I have the gate code but don’t tell anyone)
  •  Tapestry (gated too)

Specific event information will be announced soon, so I recommend checking back with the Ahwatukee Foothills News the closer we get to Halloween.

My 8 Trick or Treating Tips for a Safer Halloween

  1. Don’t allow your kids to trick-or-treat alone. Have them walk in a group or be accompanied by an adult.

  2. No eating candy until you arrive home. This allows you to inspect each piece and ensure it hasn’t been tampered with. Throw away any non-sealed candy.

  3. No matter how excited they are, have your kids walk, not run.

  4. Bring a flashlight to help you see. You can also place reflective tape on your kids’ costumes and treat bags to make them more visible.

  5. Before crossing the street, have your kids always look both ways and use a crosswalk whenever possible.

  6. Sidewalks are meant for walking, so have your kids use them as paths. Stay out of the streets whenever possible.

  7. Don’t allow your kids to enter anyone’s house, unless you personally know the people who own the house. If someone wants to give your kids candy, they must do it outside the house.

  8. NEVER get in the car with a stranger.
