If you haven’t noticed, here at Deb Beran Properties we’re a little partial to the Smith Mountain Lake fall season. Summer may draw the crowds, but there is something special about the glowing reflection of colored leaves against the water in autumn. Deb Beran Properties has some ideas on how you, your family and your friends can spend some time together while making the most of what autumn has to offer. We’ve already mentioned local events, but here are a few activities good for anytime.
Apple Picking
Smith Mountain Lake is in a prime location for a short drive to the apple orchards in either Bedford, Franklin County and Roanoke. Most even have added attractions such as corn mazes, animal petting areas, pumpkin patches and craft and food vending. Visit applejournal.com for nearby orchard listings.
Crafts and Baking
When the weather gets crisp, it’s time to head inside for craft time and baking. Treat children and grandchildren to a day of making fall wreaths, soy candles or an seasonal garland to enhance the harvest feel at home. Fill the house with favorite cool weather aromas as you bake pies or cookies for dessert later.
Photo Tour
Fall casts a distinctive beauty to Smith Mountain Lake, which means the photo ops are at their peak. Whether you’re a professional photographer or not, a boat or car tour around the lake for scenic photos is a must for capturing the season, as well as faces and memories of loved ones. Cruise to the state park in Bedford, the community park in Franklin County or park the boat in front of the SML dam for breathtaking natural settings. Booker T. Washington National Monument or a friend’s attractive dock are also great options.
Deb Beran Properties hopes these are some ideas you can put into action this fall at Smith Mountain Lake.
