Declutter – Stage Right!
Time to Get Your House in Order was our gentle way of helping with a plan to start decluttering your home and getting it organized. No hurry here, one step at a time.
One suggestion that we found to keep you on the right track was Declutter – Stage Right, in other words start with the first room you enter and then go around your house to the right until you have finished every room.
Our tips for you this week are for the foyer/entry way. Then we will “stage right” to the dining room next week.
The Foyer is your “first impression” to your guests and actually might set the tone for your own homecoming every day. If it is cluttered and unkempt it doesn’t make a good impression on guests and it might set up your mood to be a little “unkempt”.
First evaluate what is in the area?
Furniture that is not useful or is a landing place for clutter, consider removing it until everyone gets used to putting their belongings where they belong.
If you do have containers where you drop shoes or umbrellas, then dump them out and clean them out of the clutter that has accumulated in the bottom
Vacuum the rugs and clean the windows, it will make a huge difference.
Dust/wash the front door and baseboards. Don’t forget the light fixtures.
Add storage for things that really need to be by the front door, but you want to keep organized and maybe even out of sight.
Add the hall closet; even it is not part of this room. Empty out the entire closet and only return what needs to be in the closet. Donate, throw or put it where it truly belongs.
Well that was easy and didn’t hurt too much, right? For ideas of staging your foyer click here.
See you next week as we head in to the Dining Room.
