Weltanschauung: My observations about it the second time in the past two years...
Hard to believe I participated in this same contest last year. In case you are wondering why, because my friend Lynn B. Friedman from Atlanta asked me to. Well I am starting to get pulled in this year for the same reason. Needless to say, this year is busier than last year, so I am not sure I will get to the finish line… no matter what the results will be, my intensions are good.
It is also challenging to write about the same “old subject” it reminds me of being in High School and in College. The mandatory subject had to be met. So with that said let’s make this perfectly clear: The reason I am a Realtor is, because I did not like dogma and “anything mandatory”. I control my own destiny and am internally motivated. External motivation is not my style and do not respond well to itJ
I wrote a blog post last year about this very subject” Weltanschauung”: view of the world. This is a philosophy the original founders of Active Rain came up with. This truly was and is a brilliant view. Sadly, over the years thanks to many reasons it has eroded. Hoping with this “new impetus” it will return to the intent of the original founders.
The Jury is still out how this philosophy will play out. There are a few Active Rain Members, who have stepped up quietly in the background tried to exert their influence, some have played a larger role than others. They shall remain nameless.
To me this is a simple and easy philosophy: Treat others fairly, and treat them as they treat you. Well I should watch what I say, not all is good in the shireJ If you treat others as they treat you, that might not be good. So let me re-phrase treat others as you would like to be treatedJ
Needless to say this is easier said than done, we are all independent contractors, not on salary, well at least those of us who are members of this platform. We are all humans and we are affected by many factors, our external influences consist of family, upper management, clients and coworkers. So it depends what our stress level can handle, how we respond to many things and especially when we are blogging or commenting.
Dick Greenberg wrote a great post about the “sofa, being the fiber of AR” that being the ‘Weltanschauung’ I have high respect for his opinion, his ethics and his post. I might have to disagree “The fiber” is not the ‘Weltanschauung’ it is the ‘membership’ as long as the membership is kind, caring and use the attitude of “give & be kind” this platform works. If this attitude is ignored and the leadership fails to set the example, we will be in a downhill spiral.
What I am missing is leadership, but this post is not about that, it is about Weltanschauung… there are many points that we should all follow up and down the chain… will we?? Well there are times we get out of the lines as one commercial used to say “stay in the lines” as long as we spend more time within the lines we will be fine.
So after reviewing the ten points I lean to these this year:
- We encourage dissenting and contrarian points of view because our industry is better served by continually examining the status quo. Challenging conventional wisdom is often essential for the evolution of our industry and the development of new opportunities.
- We believe in spirited discourse, but personal attacks or predatory behavior will not be tolerated. Respect and civility are the shared values that unite us all.
Now with that said I have often paid the price of being dissenting and contrarian after the original owners moved on. Let’s see if I will be penalized again? :)) Just on a side note I do not care either way I am comfortable in my skin. To be clear I am successful as a Realtor in Beverly Hills. I have a huge international client base and I also have a niche market: I am the Land Man in the greater Los Angeles area. So with that said I do not worry if I am the outsider.
