New Housing Trends

Many home buyers want to have the latest trends built into their new home.  Most of these trends are geared towards proving less maintenance, using less energy, and having information available faster.  In the past, housing trends tend to come slowly, but now the public wants to be aware of these trends, and pick and choose which features they want to include into their home.  Following is a list of trends that are currently occurring in the housing industry:

Coral shades -  use bright colors which will provide a brighter outlook.

Open Area -  create open space by removing walls between kitchen and living area.  This will give an atmosphere of togetherness.

Floor plans – creating plans with multiple master bedrooms, open floor plans, more energy efficiency with less square footage.

Free standing bath tubs – new trend towards free standing tubs and single wash basins.  Many times, people do not use the room simultaneously.

Granite versus quartz – granite while still popular, but quartz a manmade, and tough product is picking up popularity.

Porcelain floors – thinking of going with imitation wood, porcelain is less expensive and wears well.   Porcelain comes in many different sizes and colors.

Security systems -  technologies have change making them more affordable, easier to install and operate. Some of devices include web-controlled security cameras and motion sensors for pets.

Electronic charging stations – areas with the home are being set aside to charge electronic devices such as: corner of kitchen, mud room, entrance from garage, and a niche in the landing where everybody passes by.

More than one master suite – this is great for out-of-town guests, aging parents and grown children to have their privacy.  The greatest popularity is to have these suites on lower level.

Wood burning stoves – coming year may bring a new a generation of these types of stoves.

Wellness systems – improvements in heat recovery and ventilation, lighting systems that utilize sunshine, and swimming pools with a secondary pool that has gravel and plants that clean the water.

Storage -  design of specialized storage into the home by avoiding a larger house.

Keyless entry – some home builders are starting to offer biometric fingerprint door locks with numerical algorithms.

Water – with drought conditions existing some homeowners are purchasing rainwater tanks, graywater systems, and drought-tolerant plants, etc.

Outdoor living – expect to see improvement in outdoor living spaces.  This will include pools, hot tubs, outdoor showers, and improvements for pets.
