Youtube and Animoto and copyright issues
If you are using Animoto (or similar services) to create "video" slideshows that you then upload to YouTube, where there is music available to you as a subscriber, you may still run into an issue with YouTube. And like I did, get an email from YT letting you know of a copyright violation. Freak-out time.
The good thing is as a user we do have the right under the licensing from Animoto to use this music, but what to do about YouTube?!
Tammy shares a terrific tutorial below on how to deal with this problem and get that copyright violation removed. Seems pretty easy.
So you may not need it now but it could happen. Read on...
And please be sure to pop over to Tammy's post and comment there!
The first time I went to my youtube video manager and found a copyright notice on a video I'd uploaded from Animoto (where I have a pro account) I about flipped my lid. But after a long wait on hold the customer service rep told me the page where I could send youtube a link with their "legal notice". I have become very aware now it will happen over and over and when I post a video to youtube I wait 6 to 12 hours (usually) for the notice to show up and then take the following steps to take care of it.
(highlighed in yellow) This will take you to your list of videos.
Then if you have the dispute it will show up like on the highlighted portion of the next photo.
If "includes copyrighted content" is there you need to take action.
When you click on the the link that says "includes copyrighted material" it takes you to the page where you scroll down near the bottom and click the highlighted "file a dispute" link.
You will need to then click the circle that says I have a license or written permission.... that you see above (this is for animoto pro accounts)
Then as if they don't believe you knew what you were doing when you said you had a license they make you check a box that says "are you sure?" so if you're sure (I am sure I have one) then check the box and continue.
Now this is the nitty gritty so to speak. You explain and as you can see I type that I'm a paid subscriber and put a link to the legal commercial terms on Animoto's site. You have to check both boxes about your good faith belief in the claim and understanding that the person who filed the dispute can see your claim. You also have to type your name as your signature.
You will now be given one file page to review before "filing your dispute"
While the dispute is being "handled" it will display:
And generally speaking between an additional 24 and 48 hours that notice will vanish and all will be fine. No more dispute and no more chance that you video will taken off of youtube or that your account will be in jeopardy. I have never had anyone "dispute" my "dispute" that I had a license to use via Animoto.
I hope this helps you if you use Animoto and upload your videos to youtube.
I love the service, find it easy to use and it allows not only stills, but actually video clips to be uploaded.
