Hands down, one of the most recognizable mascots of Palm Beach is the beautiful sea turtle. Luckily for us, The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is conveniently located to us, providing us with fun and educational events year round! The mission of this organization is "To promote conservation of ocean ecosystems with a special focus on threatened and endangered sea turtles" and they have a unique and beautiful vision "to be recognized locally and internationally as the leading authority in sea turtle education, research, and rehabilitation."
The Loggerhead Triathalon is later on in the year, but for the meantime, we can visit the Center to give back and support this organization!
Today, March 30th, at 3:30 pm (and almost every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday), there is a Jr. Vet Kids Lab for all children up to 12 year old to enjoy! "The Children's Research Station exercises science skills in children through an experimental lab." This program can accommodate up to 10 children for the 1/2 hour class and is designed to allow participants to see the sea turtle rescue and release process in its entirety!
The kids will enjoy a class led by "Dr. Logger", a trained LMC volunteer acting as the center's veterinarian. The 30 minute program begins when Dr. Logger receives a scripted call on the radio from the beach about a sick and injured sea turtle. The children get the chance to come to the aid of a green sea turtle replica and Dr. Logger teaches the group about common injuries and illnesses that affect these endangered animals.
It is a truly exciting event for the kids and they'll walk away with a great experience and some great knowledge pertaining to marinelife safety and crisis control! Additionally, No pre-registration is required. Sign-up begins at the facility 30 minutes prior to the program, space is limited.
