There is nothing any harder than trying to write creatively when your brain seems to be on vacation.  Fortunately, I am a Realtor and Realtors like bright, shiny things sometimes referred to as squirrels.  Because of that there are millions of things that randomly happen around you that you can write about.

Here are a few of my thoughts this week.

  • In Amarillo, we are right on I-40 east to west.  Why wouldn't that be west to east?  (You probably already knew that.)  One of the streets that has an overpass is Bell. (Knew that, too?).  Very often there is a motorcycle police on the overpass with raider and another one hiding down below.  Countless tickets have been given there.

  • As I was driving on  I-40 going beneath the underpass (If you are on top it is an overpass?  And if you below it is an underpass?)  I wondered how policemen  decide  how they chose to go to that particular spot.Is it just a random assignment.  "Hey let's go get some speeders on I-40 and Bell".  FB lights up in warning.

  • Why does it take 8 people to dig a whole when the other 7 just stand around and watch.? You know who I am talking about.

  • Why is Amarillo named yellow?

  • Why do men work out and then take their shirts off?  Oh, never mind.  I know that one.

  • Why does Coulter and Elmhurst have the traffic  camera?  You might be buzzing along and then you see Elmhurst looming near you.   What do you do?  Speed up?  Slow down?  What would happen if you got the yellow but couldn't quite make the stop and you end up in the middle of the intersection.  Do you get multiple pictures?   And multiple fines.  It is one of those auto click cameras like you get in one of those photo booths things.   You get 10 pictures of your plate before the light turns green?

  • Who can define the difference between a career and a job?

  • If you text does that mean you would rather communicate by text.  If you call do you want me to call back.  If you email do you want me to email back.  How do I know?

Just some random thoughts.  As a challenge, stop right now and write down 7 random thoughts.  It helps you stretch your brain and your thought process.  You may even come up with some brilliant idea you can patent and make a million dollars.
  • One last thought.  If you are thinking of buying a house, selling a house, or getting a real estate license, contact me.

Here are my random thoughts

1. How did I get so many tabs open on my browser?

2. How the heck am I going to manage being 38 with a new baby on the way. I know people older than me have kids....but I sure hope there is a hidden reservoir of energy inside me somewhere.

3. How did the people that owned this house before us keep the grass growing in that one section of the yard where we have the big tree that hangs over the yard.

4. When will the Seattle Mariners make the playoffs again? In my lifetime?

5. How many agents (or even professionals in general) haven't reached out to their sphere or past clients once in the last month? Too many I bet.

6. We've been looking for our next house recently and I can't begin to explain how many homes I have seen on the market that get listed at a certain price....then after a few weeks (or even months) on the market, get a price INCREASE. What the heck is that all about? It leaves me completely baffled every time.

7. What's it going to be like raising a mixed race child. Is 'mixed race' even the proper term? How will I be able to identify with the challenges my son will face having been raised in a society that gives me massive advantages just for being a straight, white, male. Who will be the first person to get an earful for what I perceive to be a slight of my child? This keeps me up at night.....

8. Will the ActiveRain podcast that we launch next week be well received. Will anyone even listen?

Thanks. That was fun (and slightly therapeutic)

(and a bonus #9....did I spell therapeutic right? I shocked myself.....)

Bob I am 55 and my youngest is 6 (I have 6 boys 6 to 20).  My first grandchild (a girl thank God) is 2 months old.  I do not have the energy to do all that I wish, but I have more patients and wisdom (although I can be cranky when tired).  You manage.  Congradulations.  As a parent you learn an entire new type of love.

I tend to expect that people will respond in the manner in which the engagement was first made. So if I call, I expect a call back. If I text, I expect them to text, etc. Although, I'll be the first to admit, if someone sends a text or email, and I feel like typing the response will take too long....I just pick up the phone and call. Maybe I'm old school that way :-)

The overpass thing... in my area you either go over the overpass or under the overpass. :)

This posting supports actually knowing someone beyond their name. I like it...

1. How can I convey a persons blind spot to them in a way that they get it?

2. What can I say to someone that can edify and encourage them?

3. Where is my time best served?

4. Today, may I have the privilege of righting a wrong anywhere I see it

5. To people I meet who are held captive by doubt, fear and hesitation? Unlearn this & it all goes away. It only lives/exists in the mind. Overcome this

6. What one person can do another can do. Want it? Go do it! No talk... DO!

7. There go I but for the grace of God...this keeps me connected via humility

Seems like some days I have more random thoughts than others ... but with that said, I too have wondered about the "rules" of communication when texted and called, Pamela Madore ... and who wrote those rules????

I have often wondered if "texted" is even a word.

Hello from I-40 in Nashvile, TN! We also have a Bell Rd which turns into Stewart's Ferry and then crosses I-40. A career is what you study or practice to be and can become expert at. A job is a stop off point, perhaps on the way to a career.

OK, here are my random thoughts:

Why do people say "Back and forth?" My Grandma used to say "Forth and back," which really makes more sense.

Why do people hire me to write something for them, then "not have time" to look at the copy for a week or more after I send it to them?

Why do brand new agents on limited budgets pay their invoices far faster than (some) established agents who love to tell me that they made a million dollars last year?

How is it that when I send an email to a client with 3 questions, they answer only one of them?

Why have my dogs decided that I must get up and let them outside at 6 a.m.?

Where will I find time to plant and tend my garden this year?

Why is my house so full of dust when it's still damp outside?

Why did I get to be the lucky one who has sons who actually like to visit with their old mom?

How come I get to have such a good life - with work I love, good health, and a great family - when so many other people are suffering?

I've enjoyed all the random thoughts!

Here are mine....

1.  What made someone eat an egg the first time?

2.  Am I getting enough magnesium?

3.  I wonder what time today my son gets home from Hawaii.

4.  I can't believe I'm 58.

5.  It doesn't seem real that a new grandbaby is due any day now.

6.  I need to follow up with the client from last week and see if they got the paint yet.

7.  Is anything ever really random?

Apr 07, 2016 08:56 PM
Pamela Madore

I can't believe you are 58 either!  Look much younger.  The magnesium question is tough to answer, though.  Often wondered the same thing.

...squirrels like shiny objects just like Realtors.  Had never considered the rat of a face thing.  Maybe I should stop using the analogy.
