Day 9 - thankful for modern medicine

By
Real Estate Agent with Compass CA DRE# 01215160

As some of you might remember, about 1-1/2 years ago my husband had major spine surgery. After receiving amazing support from Facebook and other friends, I wrote a bit about his surgery and recovery in a post, "Adjusting one's sails, in business and in life."

He has recovered well, and while adjustments have been made, they are quite acceptable ones to us -- a long hike might be 8-10 miles now, pain medication is still needed, but it's over-the-counter ibuprofen and it's effective. In short, he is once again enjoying life; working, playing, exploring, and planning for the future.

I'm truly thankful for the medical and surgical advances that have been made, and extremely grateful to his surgeon, Dr. Dmitriy Kondrashov.

It is good to see that your husband is doing well.

We, too, are fortunate to have world class health care in Montgomery County, Maryland.

I'm with you on that. I experienced the change in cancer treatment in 2008 at MD Anderson. I have fewer life changes today because of it. Glad your husband is ok.

When I watch a TV show like Cinemax's The Knick, about early 1900s medicine practiced at The Knickerbocker Hospital in New York, it gives me a whole new appreciation for modern medicine.

Lottie, so glad your husband's surgery was a success. Wish I could walk 8-10 miles a day...I am lucky to do two.

The advancements in medicine have been phenomenal.  The type of cancer my mother died from in 1975, has a very high rate of survival in today's medical world.

I would say he is in great health to be able to do an 8-10 mile hike. I would have to take a couple of ibu's for that too.

Thank you, Joe Pryor - my husband is doing well, and I'm glad you are, too.

Hi Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - I know, right? Even things like anesthesia are relatively new. Lucky us!

Rebecca Gaujot, the Go To Realtor® and Debbie Reynolds - we're heading out today instead of tomorrow for a good hike before the most welcome rains come. I'm afraid 8-10 miles won't undue the excesses of yesterday, though.

Yolanda Cordova-Gilbert - so many things for which to be thankful!

That's so true, Myrl Jeffcoat - I'm sorry that treatments weren't there in time for your mother.

Thanks for stopping by, Lou Ludwig - I hope you're enjoying this Thanksgiving weekend.

Lottie Kendall - That video is a keeper! Your husband is an example to others who have similar health issues. Often, people simply complain and they bring others down. With an amazing physician, modern medicine, a support system, the love of family & friends, and a positive attitude more health problems can be cured. What he does today, he couldn't do before or may never have been able to if he had given up. I am so happy for you and your hubby!

Hi Patricia Feager - I used that little video of my husband hiking as a thank you note to Dr. Kondroshov. Thanks for your good wishes--they mean a lot.
