Don't Be a Copycat, Be Original!

As real estate agents we receive countless emails from vendors, trades people, and of course clients.  Going through emails that invariably end up in SPAM folders and you realize just how many are "countless."

If you break up the word "count" and "less" you start to think differently at just how many emails really count less because of their content.  Lately I've noticed that the same subject line keeps appearing in my in-box.

The subject line again today for probably the tenth time is, " Jan, Polar vortex can't freeze rates in this weeks' Markets in a Minute!"    Obviously, loan officers are getting the same newsletter and sending it to everyone in their mailing list.

Be aware that when we see this, it will be filed in File 13.  As real estate agents we need to also remember that being different and standing out, providing thought provoking content, is key to being kept out of file 13!

Be different, Don't be a Copycat, be Original!

By the way, this is my granddaughter, Emma, about 3 years ago!

Good morning Jan. You made me laugh with this. So much crap and so much the same. I love the picture of your granddaughter.

William Feela true, but to keep saying the same thing will not win readers.  Merry Christmas!

I'm glad this brought a chuckle Sheila Anderson .  Emma is now 4 1/2 and a little doll.  Wish I could see her more but she lives in Iowa!  I hope your holidays are Merry!

I see the repeats in my inbox from about four different lenders.  Delete, delete, delete.

Being creative an original takes time and effort. But the alternative seems to be an automatic Delete for those who see us as copycats.

Best wishes

We all receive retweets or emails from friends and associates, yet, I'm not offended, I simply delete it if I've already read the original content. Usually, the subject line begins with FW for forward, so, it isn't a copycat message IMO.

There are some messages however that are new, informative and interesting, yet, the messenger or author isn't as important as the message when it's useful or helpful to my circumstances or lifestyle.

Thank you Amy Kramer !  She is bright, intelligent and I bet doesn't repeat herself in emails :)  Especially since she's now just 4 1/2!

Then you understand completely Chris Ann Cleland !  But 10 of the same subject line?!  Jeez!

So true   John Wiley ! Originality isn't as easy for some.

I agree  Kimo Jarrett !  But when 10 lenders send the same subject line it's very redundant and unoriginal.  I wonder if they know they are doing that and that it's instantly deleted, probably not!

Not unique at all Lyn Sims !  But the most ironic thing is I  love watching some movies over and over again because I see something different in the movie. Like tonight - the Holiday.  I could watch that over and over.  Happy Holidays!

Hi Jan Green. You hit the nail on the head.  And even though I personally write original content for our monthly newsletter and try to have original content on all of our marketing emails/mailers, a very large percentage still end up in the "deleted items" folder or trash/recycle bin.  That's just the nature of our business. Never the less, we will continue to do our best to be "original" as I smiled when I read about your lender email messages.  I get the same ones over and over! :-)

Yes, we are subject to the "delete" file as realtors Greg Mona !  Creating great content helps us to be read and found and it is a constant battle to stay out of the "can!"  I bet you see the same stuff as we're all in one big, long list!

Spot on Bob Crane !  The delete button is an easy click when the same email pops up over and over!  Happy New Year :)
