Thank you for your recommendations
I want to start by thanking my clients who have been sending me the names of their favorite coffee shops to visit and review for my Cup of Joe Report series. Several clients named Northside Social so I was really looking forward to checking it out. I've been a few different times because they have so many items that I wanted to try.
Northside Social Coffee & Wine is located on Wilson Blvd. in downtown Arlington, Virginia in a red, two-story building that is a quick walk from Clarendon Station Metro, has a Bike Share Station adjacent to it and includes plenty of parking right next door. Each time I've visited, I've been fortunate to to get one of the very last spots available. Each time I've gone to leave, there has been a car waiting for my spot.
Northside Social has a large, sunny outside area with lots of tables. Just inside the door, you'll find seating with additional space in the back to the left of the counters and more upstairs. When you get in line to place your order, you pass displays of items for sale including a wide variety of amazing looking baked goods.
But, Is it Social?
While some coffee shops are primarily social with small groups of people congregating and talking, my daytime experiences would not place Northside Social in that category. An overwhelming percentage of the patrons were intensely connected to their laptops. On one visit two moms with strollers sat outside together and talked, but otherwise pretty much single people on laptops. I confess it may be completely different when the wine bar opens at 5:00pm and when they host a variety of community focused events. Sadly, I have not made it to any of these wine events.
I've tried a few of their baked goods. I tend to prefer savory over sweet and their savory items are delicious.
The service at Northside Social is slow, but in a wonderful way. You can ask questions, do not feel rushed to make a decision and it is clear that many of the patrons are "regulars" by the way they interact with the employees. Once you make your selections, the baristas take an amazing amount of care to make your drink. They are not distracted or hurried, but focused and masterful. Each drink I purchased over my handful of visits was beautiful and delicious. Their coffee is good and strong, rich, but not burnt.
If you are in Arlington, there is a very good chance that you will enjoy your food and drink at Northside Social. Give it a try. It's located at 3211 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201.
