Cup of Joe Report - Qualia Coffee House & Micro Roaster in Petworth
I was driving to Petworth to show a property to a client for a second time and I was running a little early. I decided to roam around and see if I could find some coffee and I stumbled upon Qualia Coffeehouse.
I found a parking spot right out front and went inside. There were a few people sitting at tables reading and drinking coffee. Seemed like any other coffee shop at first. I approached the counter and noticed several little stands with litttle white filters. They were making individual cups of drip coffee. I looked up at the menu of items and noticed they were offering a wide variety of coffees and teas as well.
The women behind the counter were REALLY friendly. I figured it's always best to see what a coffee house serves as their plain old cup of joe so I ordered a coffee. They told me that the house blend had a few more minutes until roasting would be completed, but I could try one of their single blends which were ready to drink.
The women behind the counter ran through the options. I would probably have chosen an Ethiopian variety, but the choices were very diverse and I really didn't know where to begin. A customer, who I suspect is a regular, spoke up and recommended I try the Bali. So I did and it was truly wonderful.
As I took a few sips, I walked toward the back of the shop to see the outdoor patio in the back and noticed that the roaster was roasting the house blend right there in the shop. The man working the machine took some time to explain what he was doing and it was very interesting learning about and watching the roasting process.
I must say that in addition to great coffee, it was a very welcoming atmosphere created by very upbeat and friendly employees and customers alike. I will definitely return and decided to write a Cup of Joe Report about my experience. I visited Qualia's website to confirm the address and link to their site and I noticed they have amusing directions to their shop - including directions to Qualia by zeppelin. Seriously fun people run this shop.
