Carmel Valley Village on the Monterey Peninsula, California

Real Estate Broker/Owner CA#01772851 HI#RB21268

Carmel Valley is just inland of Carmel-by-the-Sea and Big Sur. Drive 13 miles up Carmel Valley Road and you will find the Village that is the getaway for those of us who want to escape the coastal area.

Sounds kind of dumb when I write it, but who wants to get away from the ocean under normal circumstances? Well, we all need to go to some other place on weekend to escape from our daily lives.

And Carmel Valley Village is that place. On weekends it humms with local residents who mix with visitors in charming outdoor restaurants, in its many wine tasting rooms opened by Monterey vineyards, and cute little boutiques and art galleries.

Carmel Valley is still the laid back community that Joan Baez and her friends loved back in the day, and Doris Day and Betty White still reside in today.

For those who like an active lifestyle, there are still horse ranches and lots of opportunity to ride or hike at Garland Park. And when you go to the mid-valley area, there is Carmel Valley Ranch and Quail Lodge for golfing and tennis. There's a bike trail all down Carmel Valley Road past glorious vistas of the ocean to the west.

Prices range from $1,000,000  to mostly $1,600,000 for a detached home; and just under $1,000,000 for a townhouse/condominium.

I did spot a couple of REO homes around $500,000 to $600,000 but they are located beyond Carmel Valley Village.

It has been many years since I have been in that area, but it remains one of the most beautiful places in the country.  I would love to check out that olive oil tasting room;  as it is, I order my olive oil from a place in Lodi (Coldani Olive Ranch) but I'm always up for something new.

Susan Haughton - What I like about Quail & Olive is you can taste before you buy. Incredible how different they can be.

There is also an olive oil and vinegar place in Old Sacramento where you can do that, too, Hella! Someday you'll have to head over this way for a visit.
