Think Thin Thursday ~ New Year, New Body, Begin in the Middle

By
Real Estate Agent with Florida Supreme Realty SL514814

An interesting fact about New Year resolutions is that by January 12th 92% of them have already been broken. I will make several resolutions throughout the year although the 1st of January is never their beginning date for me. The theory that you need repetition for 30 days to have anything become a habit has now been scientifically proved to occur physiologically in only 21 days. Therefore, what are we waiting for, let's get started.

Why do I say begin in the middle? I want to address your core. It's where your movement and power is generated. Every twist and turn depends on your core, its stability and its strength. If you have given up on your resolution already I urge you to start over right here & right now. This may be all the exercise you'll ever need or want for that matter, but I can guarantee by Valentine's Day you'll feel like a new person if you follow these two simple exercises.

This New Year can be the one you've always dreamed about or the one you've dreaded.  Either is brought upon us by a tiny little change.

Good morning, Kevin J. May I look forward to your thursday posts.... this one is most important.... core is most important.... I do a core workout every-single-day and evening.... I learned this one from one of my grandsons when he was at the police academy...

it's a leg lift that's timed.... lay on back with legs extended and lifted 6" off the floor...arms extended  out to side.... I'm at 4 minutes 34 seconds as my longest hold....

the police academy makes you hold that position for 20 seconds and rest 10 seconds...and repeat....  my grandson took a video of my first lift and hold on my floor at home when he was at the academy....sent it to the entire class!!!  and called them all babies....OMG.... I'm so abused!

Kevin J. May that takes practice.... and constant repetition of that routine every day.... I started with less than a minute and worked my way up....

I definitely need to work more on my core, I think about it, but most of the time that is as far as it goes.

Very cool. When we were both doing Pilates regularily, we had a very strong core. This is great advice, and the exercises look managable for many people - so important. We will give it a whirl, what do we have to lose? Hahaha.

Centering is a primary principle in Pilates therefore these exercises should fit right in to most routines. No whirl unless it's done with control Debb & Bernie. So much to gain!

You are correct - same principles as yoga and Pilates. Remaining  still and engaging the core takes mindful discipline. I'm so glad to dicover this Thursday series, Kevin. Always interested in others fitness advice and tips...we can always learn something new.

Kevin this is great! I've been looking for an idea to add onto hiking as my core really needs some work.  Thanks!!!  What I like is she's made is simple, easy to not overwheming at all like anther book I had in my libray - which I though no way is all that going to happen. Simple, Easy and fun.

Simplicity is what I strive for Anna and Angela conveys that easily. Not so sure about the fun yet, let you know in a month or so!

LOL Kevin J. May ! That's why I hike - cause it's fun. I can't stand doing the treadmill anymore. Nature is so fabulous to be out in every day. But I do need a lot of core work too. Again - thanks as this is perfect for me.

Hi Kevin J. May, core exercises are often avoided by so many. I see people at the gym with big muscles and their cores are not toned, not smart.

Jan 15, 2019 06:31 AM
Kevin J. May

It's an injury waiting to happen Beth and probably due to their less visible result when "toned". Throw them a medicine ball every now and then.

Hi Kevin

Thanks for the inspiration! My core could definitely use more help. I am back into spin classes regularly but need to focus on that core a bit more.

Spin is definitely a heart healthy move Jeff and I'm so glad that you recognize the benefits of core strength also. Please give these two exercises a month of effort to find out what you're missing.
