When I read about this month's contest, three songs popped into my head immediately! That's right...three distinctively annoying songs, that dig deep into my brain matter and get mired there indefinitely. The worst part of it, is that I do not know more than a few lyrics to any of them...so I find myself belting out the part I know, and then mumbling or humming the rest. I never know what is going to set these songs off, but here they are:
The first one would have lived safely in the past, if not for it's reappearance a few years ago in a commercial for yogurt or something. After mentioning to my daughter how utterly annoying I found it, she decided to slip it into a CD she burned for me of my favorite songs. I, of course, cut her out of my will immediately.
I refuse to even type it out, so click here.
The second is just as bad. I thought I was safe from this one, until the movie by the same name started showing up on cable a couple of months ago. Just reading the name gets the song started in my head. I feel very strongly that it should be banished from the planet forever.
This one, too, I refuse to type. Click here.
Now, song number three is certainly not in the same category as the first two. The only negative is that once I hear it, it is with me all day! And, I don't know the words to this one either, so once I get out the part I know, I'm reduced to nuh nuh nuh, or doh de doh, or some other complete nonsense!
Now, this video is not the version we all know, but apparently the original singer/songwriter doesn't want to share what is probably painful for him to watch, since it features his now ex-wife! So, here is another version of the song, which seems to have the same power to dig deep into my cerebellum!
Disclaimer: Elaine Manes is in no way responsible for the previous three songs causing damage to your brain or the brain of anyone within earshot of your computer. If they do start to run through your brain, I expect royalties for each time, which will be applied to my "Stop the Music Lobotomy" fund.
