In-And-Out is a California-born fast food chain that is well-loved by many in The Golden State. And quite a few beyond our borders too. In fact, some of the rave reviews are legendary. The chain’s footprint has grown here to the hundreds and extended into other states since being born back in the 1940s in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County.

I can “see” its popularity and can certainly appreciate its popularity. After all it’s clearly on display as I wonder why anyone would wait in their car in a line that snakes through parking lots and onto adjoining streets that is necessary at times to order a hamburger at the drive-thru. It’s a bit of a double double mystery to me.

Many things in life are mysterious. But that’s another(among a long and ever-growing list) story. Meanwhile, I digress. . . And that is always on the menu.

It took 13 years to get one here in southern Utah, Michael. They had to figure out how to get fresh hamburger to the location in an acceptable time frame. We went to the Grand Opening and it was done well. The line is outrageous every day, winding through the parking lot at lunch hour and beyond!

HI Michael Jacobs - My husband delivered to (and ate at) the original in Baldwin Park back in 1974. He delivered directly to the owner. Snyder Foods was located right next door. Back then, I don't think there were that many stores maybe 20-ish and they were all in SoCal.

I have an In and Out near my home. I love 'em. I think the secret to their success is the short simple menu that allows them to move orders out. I remember once driving down the California valley. I became really hungry about half way along my journey. I pulled into an "In and Out." I was a little discouraged when I saw two school busses in the parking lot, and a whole bunch of cars. I worried that I wouldn't have a short wait. But, almost like any other time I had been there, I as in and out in a few minutes.

Funny but, I was going to comment that I wonder if they are like Chick-fil-a here - super long line but, a very short wait. Then I saw Myrl Jeffcoat's comment. Glad to hear it's not a long wait at all.

And, no, I've never been to one but, were hoping with all of the CA restrictions these past 2 years, they would opt to move the center of their business to the East Coast!! I'm dying to see if their burgers live up to the hype...and I'm not a burger or a fast fook fan but, they have my curiosity piqued!
