Self imposed rules can have exceptions.

With the exception of Open Houses I have set aside Sundays for the last 30 years. Now retired from Real Estate it's easy to just give a flat, blunt NO when asked if I will work as a Notary Public on a Sunday.

Every once in a while there is an exception, like this past Sunday. I was asked if I could Notarize a four page document for a man who was injured in a hit and run auto accident. They live out of town but offered to come to my office to get this done.

Compassion will get me to break my own self imposed rules.

I enjoyed our visit, he had brought his wife and son along and as we signed documents their son enjoyed Timmothy's books and Art Gallery.

As a bonus, just as I was locking up, a local artist and his girlfriend came in and asked to see the gallery. That was also an excellent visit and they gave Timmothy a wonderful (brief) review in the Gallery Guest Book.

Here is an extra fun note from the book of REALLY slow learners. After posting the question Am I the only one who hits the wrong button? and receiving lots and lots of good advice I failed to follow any of it and I lost this same post last night when I intended to originally post it. True to what Lyn Sims said "occasionally" you can hit the back button and retrieve it... nope, didn't work last night so once again I had to re-create it once more. BTW I've hit save at least three times now as I've been writting this. 😊

Good morning, Bob... isn't there a saying "rules are meant to be broken?" I'm not saying to make a habit of it, but sometimes doing so can lead to unexpected rewards.

Hello Bob - some rules can be broken "sometimes".  As far as ActiveRain strategies for saving, they work "sometimes" too but definitely not each time.

Not just what we do A. but also our attitude as we do it. I was happy to help these folks out as no other Notary was but their offering to drive to me showed me that they really needed some help Ron and Alexandra Seigel .

Well said Michael Jacobs . This was the first time in four years I've broken that rule and it may be another four years or longer before it happens again.

As far as saving my work I NOW have a post-it note on my monitor.

Always exceptions to a rule Bob and in this case it has a great result!  Good for you for figuring out how to make sure your post is saved!  Makes a big difference, doesn't it.

I have been considering giving up a part of some of my Saturdays Anna to be at the gallery. In exchange I may take a little more time off during the week. Our downtown is usually a very busy place Saturday mornings which would be good for the Gallery.

We should recognize there are often exceptions to the rule.  It also helps keep the mind flexible.

Hi Bob- you did the human thing! While rules are in place for a reason, we're human and sometimes our head and compassion have to override the rules, even if we were the ones to write them.

I recognized that my rule should not over rule these folks need for help that they could not find elsewhere Myrl Jeffcoat . I am really glad I did as they were appreciative and then there was also that added benefit to show off Timmothy's art gallery.

Thanks for the feature in The Old Fart's Club. 😊

Well said Kathy Streib . When we talk the talk we should be ready to walk the walk if we claim to be Christians.

Hi Bob,
There's no better reason to break a rule than to help another human in need. Your kindness was rewarded.

It was immediately rewarded Carol Williams both by the happiness of those who signed and the couple that just happened to stop by when we finished.
