Grateful for Taking the Initiative to Change

By
Real Estate Agent with HomeStarr Realty RS143922A

Every November we are challenged to write what we are grateful for hosted by Debe Maxwell, CRS . I sat here and Immediately a few things popped into my mind. So I will start to write about what I did two years ago

For over thirty-six years I worked in a traditional Real Estate office I had my own office there and went in to meet clients when I needed to but also went there too as they say to hang out at the water cooler. That really is an expression. I wasn't hanging there but I did go there even if I didn't have anything to really do. I would work on my computer and chat with some agents. Sometimes we would go out to lunch or order lunch. Maybe a mortgage person would stop by or a Home Inspector. I had not done Floor time also called opportunity time in many years but past clients or other people would call me. Then I would fight traffic and head home

Then something happened COVID. Real Estate in Pennsylvania shut down. Offices closed. I was now working from home. We were not allowed to show houses. Title companies had sellers sign everything in advance. Buyers were not in the same room. Everything had changed. This went on for months. When it did open up again everything had changed. People wore masks and for a while things were virtual. I was working from home. I had everything I needed at home. Need I say more?

helpfulhannah

They say good things come from bad situations. I was seeing more and more agents leaving the traditional offices. Newer offices were opening where you could work from home yet have all the conveniences and support of an office with staff. Several associates I knew went to HomeStarr Realty and were really happy. There you could work out of eight different locations as it was all owned by the same broker. Being self-motivated sounded like an ideal move. Making a move is always scary and especially something with a newer concept. I decided to meet with the broker-owner and immediately knew why everyone thought so highly of him. It took one meeting and I knew I had a new journey to take. I was so thankful

I am so grateful today that I took the initiative to change my workplace. Things happen for a reason. This company is growing every day. Anytime I have a question or need support it is there. It will be two years on December 2 since I moved and there is not one day that I am not thankful for making the move.  There are over 325 agents in the company and an agent in a big brand asked me how do you explain to my clients.  Easy we are one of the largest local offices but they are going with me!

I hope you enjoyed my story  I am Thankful every day that I took the initiative to make a change sometimes we stay in situations because we are afraid of change-  Grateful #1  Debe Maxwell, CRS challenge

Hi Hannah,
I am one of those who all things can work for the good. It doesn't mean everything that happened is good. It means we can bring about good from the bad. It doesn't happen automatically. We have to make it happen. You have done that in your business. And, that is something to be grateful for. 😊

Carol Williams What a bizarre time it was being quarantined like a science fiction movie. I remember looking forward to our zoom meetings it was so wonderful seeing everyone. That was when I realized I could get so much done at home without running to and from an outside office envionment- Have a great day sista

Hello Hannah - moving can be good.  And when that moving means a change in outlook (and approach) there can be multiple other benefits.  Good example.

Congratulations on your move!

Boy does time fly, Hannah! It feels like just the other month that you changed brokerages. I'm delighted for you that you're so happy with your move. I've worked from home since 1999 so COVID restrictions did not have that much of an impact on my work process. I don't go into the office any more frequently now than I did pre-Covid or during Covid.

Nina Hollander, Broker Time does fly I will be going starting my third year on December 2 . I did work from home many a day but once COVID hit it changed everything.  My whole outlook changed. If you had told me five years ago I would be here I would think you were crazy -  😊

It took me 3 years to convince Larry to move away from our last "Corporate" broker.  Pay this fee, and that fee, and Corporate had the last say on commissions. Glad we moved away from that model years ago, and happy for you that you are now grateful you made the move too!

Hannah I also use to go in the office everyday before COVID, but since COVID I don't think I have been in the office more that 5-7 times.  I was blessed to have had a home office for several years with my previous career, so I had a complete office set up in my home.  While there was a lot of BAD that came from COVID, this change like yours was a blessing.

George Souto It was like a bad wind had to fly by as it did in the movies to make me make that change 😊 Sometimes you get so comfortable you need that real big PUSH --  Have a wonderful week George

Hi Hannah Williams - I started out at a FRANCHISE and moved within the FRANCHISE to 3 different locations. Just when I thought it was a good move, I realized it was all the same ideology, just different Brokers, Team Leaders, and Agents. Several years ago I made a change and discovered business is a lot like a dance. You have to exercise, practice your techniques, know when not to step out of bounds, avoid stepping on someone else's toes, and the list goes on. Making the switch, working out of my home years before Covid did me a lot of good. There's an old song that goes like this, when you're happy and you know it, you will know it..."

I am glad to hear you are happy. I am too! For as long as I have known you on ActiveRain, you are JOY to the WORLD!

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP  You are always so kind. Right now I have a giant smile on my face. The funny thing was I did work from home much of the time but not all the time as I do now. Occasionally I do go to the office but only when I meet clients or need to send or print large files. - Thank you for being YOU 😊

I'm so glad it's been a really good move for you Hannah!  A lot of good came out of that crazy covid period and I'm thankful for it as well.  So much simpler and easier for you now, right!  Gotta love that!!  And you still have the benefit of going into anyone of the 8 offices if you really need to.  Sounds perfecto to me!
